NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College women's volleyball team lost its final two matches of the Hawks Invitational Saturday afternoon.

(Match 1)
Mount Saint Mary opened up the second day of the Hawks Invitational with more stiff competition as they took on Union College in their first of two matches.
Julianna Simone got the first point of the set for the Knights, but the Chargers opened up with an early 7-1 run. Another big run for Union saw 8 unanswered to the board as they took a 17-6 lead. The Knights' struggled to match the offensive firepower for the Chargers as they lost the first set 25-9.
The Mount responded in the second set, jumping out to an 8-4 lead. Stellar play from
Jonaiya Williams with a Kill and 2 straight aces helped the Knights take a 13-7 lead. Union would not go away though Mount Saint Mary held a solid 21-16 lead late in the set. The Knights would squander this lead as the Chargers closed out the set on a 7-1 run winnings the second set 25-23 and taking a 2-0 lead.
The Knights struggled mightily in the third set, going down 17-2 before you could even blink. Williams and Sofa Fredericks would pair together to score a few points, but the hole they were in was one they could not will their way out of. Union scored the last 7 points of the set, winning the match 3-0.

The Knights quickly jumped into their next match against Russell Sage and needed to improve their play from the previous match.
Vanessa Seymour opened up the first set with 1 of her team-high 4 aces, as they started off with a 5-2 lead. The Mount held the lead for the first part of the set, but a 9-0 run from the Gators put them down 18-11. The Knights battled back with a 7-1 run of their own, sparked by a couple of kills from
Kaitlin Dillon, to tie the set at 20 a piece. Sage caught a second wind at the end of the set to win 25-22 and take a 1-0 lead.
Mount Saint Mary would get caught slacking to being set number two as the Gators took a 12-4 lead. The Knights leading point scorer this match,
Julianna Simone, would help them get back into the set with a 6-1 run. The Mount slowly chipped away at the Sage lead and before you knew it the set was tied 21-21. Once again the Gators would prevail at the end, taking the second set 25-22.
The Knights were just one set away from suffering yet another sweep, but they did not give up.
Julianna Simone continued to make her presence felt to start off with a few kills. Down 9-6, the Mount would rally to take an 12-11, though this was short lived as Sage took the lead right back 18-14. The Knights backs were against the wall with the Gators on match point up 24-21, but they would will their way to a 5-0 run thanks to a couple of aces from
Vanessa Seymour and take the third set 26-24.
After gaining some momentum, Mount Saint Mary looked to bring it into the fourth set taking an early 4-0 lead. Sage eventually went ahead 12-8, but
Julianna Simone took over once again to keep the Knights in this one. This set would go back and forth as the Gators held on to a small 17-15 lead towards the end of the set. The Knights stayed with them, but just like the first two sets, Sage would take over at the end and win the set 25-20, and the match 3-1.
