Mount Saint Mary College women's soccer defeated SUNY Old Westbury to make a strong comeback to Skyline Conference competition.The Knights were intent on using this game to regroup and reaffirm themselves after a difficult non-conference schedule. The scoring started early for the Mount, with
Kaitlin Hansen finding the back of the net in the 8th minute, thanks to a sharp assist from
Emma Mihale. The Knights' early goal set the tone, and they quickly found a rhythm that dictated possession and pace. For the majority of the first half, Old Westbury was pinned in their own half by their movement off the ball, fast one-touch passes, and aggressive press. Following the breakthrough, the Knights' confidence only increased as they maintained their composure and organization in the back while continuing to create excellent scoring opportunities. Lily Tanko to score, increasing the lead to 2-0.
Faith Welsh added another goal, only seven seconds later, and Mihale received her second assist of the day, as the Knights led 3-0 heading into the break.
The Knights had a commanding 3-0 lead going into the second half, but they showed no signs of slowing down. Mount Saint Mary persisted in controlling the tempo, pressing high, and moving the ball fast, denying Old Westbury any chance to regain the game.The Mount now hopes to maintain its momentum as conference play intensifies in an effort to build on this victory
