Rapid Recap
Mount Saint Mary looked to build off their momentum after a 9-1 victory over Maritime in the Skyline Conference First Round. They now had a date with top-seeded Merchant Marine, whom the Knights split with in the regular season.
Michael Di Tullio was given the nod for the Knights to get his first career playoff start. The Mount started off hot with 3 straight singles from
Frank Signorelli,
Chris Calvario, and
Christian Parisa, who also drove in a run. The Mariners responded in the bottom half of the inning with 2 runs of their own to take the lead. Both pitchers settled in and got through the next 2 innings unharmed. Merchant Marine got their bats going in the bottom half of the 3rd, scoring 5 runs to extend their lead to 7-1.
The Knights got a little something going in the top of the 5th, as
Tyler Van De Bogart doubled to drive in a run. Just as Mount Saint Mary thought they gained a little momentum, the Mariners drove in 5 runs in the bottom half of the inning to make it 12-2. With 3-straight hits from
Tyler Crocitto,
Stephen Volk, and
Noah Anderson to start the inning and cut their deficit to 12-4, the Knights continued to show fight, but fight wouldn't be enough. From here, Merchant Marine would score 8 unanswered and walk away with a 20-4 win. Hopes were still high in the Mount's dugout, as Mount Saint Mary has a second chance in the losers bracket as they take on St. Joseph's Long Island this Saturday.
