Rapid Recap
Mount Saint Mary needed to come away with a much needed win today over the Bears and they leaned on junior pitcher
Grace MacDonald to get the job done. In the bottom of the 1st,
Grace Reich battled back from an 0-2 count to draw a walk. She would advance to second off a sacrifice bunt from
Autumn Strobach, then to third base off a wild pitch. A fly out from
Chloe Graham was deep enough to drive Reich in to give the Knights an early 1-0 lead. From here, this game was all defense, as both teams made tremendous draw dropping plays.
Allie Kenney singled in the bottom of the 2nd, followed by a Reich walk later in the inning, but they would be left stranded. The Bears would get their first hit of the game in the top of the 3rd and that's it, as MacDonald was dealing and the defense behind was making play after play.
We wouldn't see a base runner for either squad until the bottom of the 5th with a single from
Autumn Strobach. St. Joseph's would get their second runner of the game on base in the top of the 6th, but a great play from Strobach off a deflection ended the inning.
Grace MacDonald showed off her two-way ability in the bottom half of the inning with a single, then advancing to second off a sacrifice bunt from
Grace Terpening.
Madison White squeezed a ball past the shortstop to put runners on the corners then
Allie Kenney hit a bomb to left center, driving in a run.
Ariana Corrente showed off her speed, scoring on an error off a failed pick off attempt to put the Knights up 3-0. The Bears led off the top of the 7th with a single, and were able to score a run off an error to get on the board. The Mount settled down, and MacDonald caught a short pop up back to her to end the game as Mount Saint Mary won 3-1 over St. Joseph's Brooklyn.
