Rapid Recap
Mount Saint Mary College celebrated Senior Day for
Karlie Ferrucci,
Anastazia Sakowicz,
Julia McGrinder,
Victoria Maffettone, and
Liz Petrellese. An early turnover for the Knights led to a Dolphins goal as they struck first. The Mount quickly responded with a vicious attack, scoring three straight as a few players were eyeing career milestones and program records in this game. A few minutes later,
Karlie Ferrucci added another goal to put them up 4-1, but Mount Saint Vincent wasn't backing down as they tied the game up 4-4 late in the quarter. Early on in the second,
Shannon McGowan would convert a free-position shot to get the Knights rolling again. This goal opened up the floodgates as
Karlie Ferrucci would score not just any ordinary goal, but the goal that would bring her to the 200-point mark in her career, an achievement only a select handful will reach in their careers. The Mount's defense locked in, forcing constant turnovers and only allowing 1 goal in the second and third quarters. Ferrucci,
Delisianna Naccarato,
Shannon McGowan,
Antonia Licardi, and
Kasey Senior all added goals as the Knights led 12-5 at the half.
They continued their domination into the second half, forcing 6 turnovers and not allowing Mount Saint Vincent to even attempt a shot on goal. The Knights' starting defense of
Briana Fassett,
Gabriela DiPalma, and
Marilyn Eves, along with the midfield, completely shut down the Dolphins' attack. Mount Saint Mary scored 6 unanswered in the third as they led 18-5 with one quarter left to play. Mount Saint Vincent got a few goals on the board in the fourth, but nothing that rattled the Knights.
Shannon McGowan found
Karlie Ferrucci for a goal to score her 99th point as McGowan looked to become the first player in MSMC history to score 100 points in a season. McGowan not only broke the previous season-high of 83 points, but she shattered it after a 10-point performance against Manhattanville. The Knights would come out on top 21-8 over Mount Saint Vincent to clinch the 5th seed in the Skyline Conference Playoffs.
