Rapid Recap
Mount Saint Mary traveled to Throggs Neck, New York, for their first Skyline Conference game against Maritime College. The Privateers opened up the scoring on the first possession of the game, but the Knights didn't take long to respond, with
Delisianna Naccarato burying a free-position shot and
Kasey Senior scoring off an
Antonia Licardi pass, who had a career-high 4 assists this game, only 21 seconds later. Both teams would trade blows as this Skyline Conference rematch from last year's playoffs was living up to the hype.
Karlie Ferrucci notched 1 of her 5 goals on the day to tie the game up 4-4, though Maritime would lead 5-4 after the opening quarter. The Privateers took control of the game to start the second quarter, taking an 8-4 lead at the 7:48 mark.
Karlie Ferrucci and
Shannon McGowan put the Knights back on track with 2 goals only 17 seconds apart, but the Mount would still trail 9-6 heading into the half.
Victoria Maffettone opened up the scoring for Mount Saint Mary in the second half, yet Maritime would not budge. No one would score for nearly 6 minutes until
Antonia Licardi ended the stalemate and cut the Knights' deficit to 11-9.
Delisianna Naccarato added one more before the end of the quarter as the Mount was still in it.
Karlie Ferrucci would take over in the beginning of the fourth quarter to tie the game up at 12-12 and
Shannon McGowan would give the Knights their first lead since the opening quarter. Maritime tied things up with 4 minutes remaining as this game was clearly coming down to the wire.
Peyton Curley made one of the most important saves of the game with just 1 second left on the clock to force overtime. In the first sudden-death overtime period, Curley would make yet another big save for the Knights, but neither team was able to score. This would mean another 3-minute overtime period where, this time, Maritime would win the draw control and not give Mount Saint Mary a chance to score as the Privateers ended the game on the first possession to win 14-13 in double overtime.
