Rapid Recap
Mount Saint Mary played in their first game of the Puerto Rico Classico Monday morning against Piedmont University.
Delisianna Naccarato would force a turnover early on then follow up with a goal moments later assisted by
Shannon McGowan. McGowan scored the second goal for the Knights as she would also record her 100th career point. Piedmont took a 5-2 lead but would get a yellow card putting the Mount up a player.
Karlie Ferrucci would set up McGowan to take advantage of the woman-up opportunity, cutting their deficit to two. Mount Saint Mary eventually tied the game back up 7-7, after goals from
Kasey Senior and
Delisianna Naccarato. Piedmont added a late goal off a free-position shot to take an 8-7 lead at the half.
Kasey Senior notched another goal to start the second half for the Knights as the game seemed to be going back and forth. Senior
Victoria Maffettone has provided some great play and physicality for the Mount in the midfield, playing her first season of lacrosse since high school, and is 2nd on the team in ground balls. Maffettone would tie the game back up 9-9 with 8:41 in the third, but this would also mark the beginning of the end for the Knights. Piedmont scored 12 unanswered goals in the third and fourth quarter as Mount Saint Mary seemed to run out of gas. The Lions big second half would push them past the Knights 21-11.
