CASTINE, ME – The Mount Saint Mary College women's lacrosse team suffered their first defeat of the season to Maine Maritime.

Mount Saint Mary traveled over 7 hours northeast to Castine, Maine where they would take on the Maine Maritime Mariners. The Knights could not get much going early on as Maritime jumped out to an early three-goal lead even after the Mount had a woman-up opportunity. They only attempted four shots the entire quarter with all four missing the mark as they trailed 5-0 after 15 minutes of play.
Victoria Maffettone made a big play for the Knight scoring her first career goal to put some life into the team. 25 seconds later,
Karlie Ferrucci got set up by
Shannon McGowan to cut their deficit to 3. Maine tacked on 3 more goals to make the score 8-2 as the Knights were not only going to have to create more offense but play better defense as well.
Shannon McGowan would net her first goal of the game, as she led all scorers on the team this afternoon. Mount Saint Mary trailed 12-3 heading into the half.
Maine continued to capitalize on their chances outscoring the Knights 4-2 in the third quarter.

Shannon McGowan would score the lone goals for the Mount in the third, as they had a big hill to climb with just one quarter remaining. Mount Saint Mary's defense stiffened up a bit in the fourth. They allowed one goal early on but held the Mariners scoreless for the last 14:17 of the game. The Knights scored three goals to close out the game, yet would suffer their first defeat to Maine Maritime 17-8
