NEWBURGH, NY – The Mount Saint Mary College women's lacrosse team opened up their season with a big victory over Wilkes University.

Mount Saint Mary opened their season up at home with Wilkes University on Saturday afternoon. The Knights won the opening draw control and kept most of the play in the Colonial's end forcing back-to-back turnovers. Karlie Ferrucci got the Mount on the board first with a goal at the 12:22 mark of the opening quarter. The Knights continued with constant pressure on the ball, as they would force Wilkes to commit a total of 35 turnovers. Freshman Kasey Senior got her first career goal to extend their lead to 2-0. Mount Saint Mary would tack on 3 more goals before the end of the quarter, including 2 from leading goalscorer on the afternoon Delisianna Naccarato, and a buzzer-beater goal from Anastazia Sakowicz. The Knights would not allow a shot on goal until 9:36 in the second quarter where First Team All-Skyline goalie Liz Petrellese would make the save. Wilkes would get their first goal of the match moments later, but Karlie Ferrucci would respond with a goal of her own to make the score 8-1. The Mounts' defense was stout all game long, keeping goalies Liz Petrellese and Peyton Curley clean. 

Coming out of the half, the Knights led 8-2, but the job was not done yet. Shannon McGowan, who had a career-high 7 assists this game, scored her first and only goal to start off the third quarter. McGowan finished this match with a game-high 8 points. The Knights added 4 more goals before the end of the quarter as they led the Colonials 13-2. The Mount would cool off just a little bit in the fourth, as they only scored 1 goal, but still were able to create great chances and prevent Wilkes from making any sort of comeback. Mount Saint Mary would finish this one off and beat the Colinals 14-3 to start their season.
