Rapid Recap
Still looking for their first win of the season, Mount Saint Mary traveled to Newark, New Jersey in hopes of getting that victory. The Scarlet Raiders got off on the right foot taking a 9-3 lead over the Knights. The Mount looked to claw their way back into the first set after a Julianna Simone kill brought the score to 15-10 Newark. The Knights just could not chain together a run which allowed the Scarlet Raiders to keep their distance on the scoreboard and win the first set 25-12.

The Knights were in a situation all too familiar to them this season and tried to break that curse in the second set. A few attacking errors from Rutgers-Newark gifted Mount Saint Mary a quick 3-1 lead. An 8-1 run put the Scarlet Raiders on top 9-4. The Knights continued to fight, as an ace from Sofia Fredericks followed by a Newark attacking error brought the Knights back to within two. Seven unanswered from Newark dug Mount Saint Mary into a hole they could not make their way out of. The second set would be won by the Scarlet Raiders 25-15, as they took the lead in the match 2-0.

Mount Saint Mary was down but not out. They came into the third set looking revitalized as an early Jonaiya Williams kill gave the Knights a 3-1 lead. With the Scarlet Raiders up 12-9, Erin Lema and Julianna Simone doubled up on kills to keep the Mount in the match. With the teams tied up at 16, Rutgers-Newark looked to pull away after scoring three straight, but the Knights responded. Erin Lema came up huge for the Knights this set as another kill from her and an ace, were the highlights of a 5-1 Mount Saint Mary run to take the lead 21-20. With the Knights looking to steal a set, the Scarlet Raiders retook the lead and were able to close out the third set 25-22.
