Women's Lacrosse Celebrates Senior Day with Dominating 15-10 Victory over Manhattanville

NEWBURGH, NY – The Mount Saint Mary College Knights women's lacrosse team celebrated Senior Day in style on Saturday afternoon, cruising to a decisive 15-10 victory over conference rivals Manhattanville University. Seniors Kate Crooker, Ella Garner, Maggie Horan, Olivia Lynch, and Erica Schmidgall all played pivotal roles in the team's dominant performance.

The Knights were firing on all cylinders, with Shannon McGowan (5 goals, 3 assists) and Victoria Ward (4 goals, 2 assists) leading the offensive charge. Erica Schmidgall contributed an impressive hat trick, while Karlie Ferrucci netted a pair of goals and dished out an assist. Delisianna Naccarato rounded out the scoring with a single goal.

The Knights built momentum early thanks to back-to-back goals from Ferrucci and McGowan to end the first quarter. The offensive fireworks continued into the second as the Mount and the Valiants each scored 4 goals apiece.  The defense, led by the senior class, held Manhattanville to just seven shots in the second quarter.

The Mount maintained their offensive firepower in the second half, stretching their lead to 11-9 by the end of the third quarter. McGowan, Ward, and Schmidgall each found the back of the net for the Knights. The defense continued to frustrate the Valiants' attack, limiting them to just five shots in the quarter.

The Knights sealed the victory in the fourth quarter with another offensive surge. Ward scored two more goals while Naccarato and Schmidgall each added one, extending the Knights' lead to the final score of 15-10.

"Great way to celebrate Senior Day," head coach Mike Lowell said after the victory. "Today was a total team effort. Our defense played 60 very good minutes. Our seniors worked hard today and the rest of the team rose to the occasion."

The Mount's dominant defensive effort was highlighted by 8 saves from goalie Liz Petrellese. The Knights also enjoyed an overwhelming 40-20 advantage in ground balls.

With the victory, the Mount improves to 8-5 on the season and 3-3 in Skyline Conference play. Their next challenge will be a key conference road matchup against the College at Old Westbury on Wednesday, April 24th, at 3:30 pm.
