Box Score Farmingdale, NY- The Women's Tennis team took to the court today to take on the Rams of Farmingdale. Coach Butler and his team have been working hard in the off-season to prepare and grow as players. This Spring the Knights welcomed two new members to the roster, who played in their first collegiate matches today.
The doubles matches saw seasoned vets
Carly Green and
Victoria Valencia paired together as the 1st team, first year players
Aria Mandile, and
Angelina Mainiero as the second team and a mix of experience paired together for the 3rd doubles team, Blanca Santana and
Maria Benicio-Ventura. The top two teams each took two games from their opponents and the 3rd team was able to win 3 games.
The singles matches were hard fought and all ended in favor of the Rams, but important experience was gained by the team. Notably, picking up where she left off in the fall, Angelina moved up from the 5th/6th spot to take on the #3 from Farmingdale. She dropped the first set 6-2, but fought her way back in the second set where she ultimately fell in tie breakers 7-2 and lost the match 7-6.
Coach Butler after the match said, "I am proud of the team. They took on a tough opponent and showed fight throughout. They have been working hard, and seeing the progress they have made so quickly gives me hope of good things to come in the Fall season next year."
