QUEENS, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary women's tennis team fell to Yeshiva University, 4-2, Tuesday night at the USTA.
The Knights opened the match by taking first doubles, with Sydney Sladicka and Chloe Graham earning a 6-3 victory over Jackie Carter and Sarah Schewitz. Yeshiva answered with a 7-6 (7-5) win at second doubles and a 6-0 victory at third doubles to take the doubles point.
Mount Saint Mary responded in singles with a pair of victories at the top of the lineup. Sladicka cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 win at first singles, while Autumn Strobach battled back from a second-set loss to defeat Sarah Schewitz, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, at second singles.
Yeshiva answered with wins at fourth, fifth and sixth singles to secure the team victory. Grace Christie battled through three sets at fourth singles before falling to Efrat Ohayon, 3-6, 7-5, 6-3. Rachel Hirt defeated Maria Benicio-Ventura by retirement at fifth singles, while Hannah Cohen earned a 6-0, 6-1 win over Evelyn Warner at sixth singles.
The third singles match between Chloe Graham and Eliana Tilem was unfinished when the team result was decided. Graham dropped the opening set, 6-4, before taking the second, 6-4, and trailing 4-2 in the third when play ended.
