NEWBURGH, NY – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Lacrosse team fought valiantly but ultimately fell short in a Skyline Conference matchup against the US Merchant Marine Academy Mariners on Tuesday night. Though the final score was 17-5, the Knights played hard and had moments of brilliance against a strong opponent.
Despite Merchant Marine's early lead, the Knights never gave up.
Delisianna Naccarato ignited a spark in the second half with two impressive goals.
Victoria Ward also found the back of the net twice and added an assist.
Shannon McGowan added to the Knights' total with a goal of her own.
Karlie Ferrucci showcased her playmaking abilities with two assists, setting up scoring opportunities for her teammates. In goal,
Liz Petrellese showed poise under pressure, making 12 saves in 30 minutes of play.
"We competed hard against a very good team. There were definitely moments where we showed our potential. We need to clean up the mistakes and focus on executing for a full 60 minutes. This team is ready to bounce back for our seniors on Saturday," said Head Coach
Mike Lowell.
The Knights (7-5, 2-3) will look to turn things around as they celebrate their seniors on Saturday, April 20th. They'll face off against Manhattanville College at 12:00 pm.
