Davenport, FL-The Mount Saint Mary College Baseball team (2-8) earned a much-needed win on Tuesday morning, defeating SUNY Canton (0-9) by a score of 15-5 in a game played at Davenport, FL. However, the momentum slowed in their second game of the day when they took on Roger Williams University and lost 19-6
Game 1
The Knights offense exploded for 15 runs on 14 hits, with
Noah Anderson leading the way by going 2-for-5 with a home run, triple, 4 RBI, and 3 runs scored.
Adam Leone also had a big day at the plate, collecting 3 hits, including a single and a double that drove in 2 runs.
Tyler Van De Bogart had a double and drove in a run and added three of his own, while
Luke Barone had 1 hits and 2 runs scored.
Richard Lamping drew 2 walks and scored 1 run, while
Elijah Duprey had 2 hits and drove in 2 runs.
How it Happened
The Mount held the lead through a very close first 4 innings. Coach Purcell's team started off hot in the bottom of the first inning putting 2 runs on the board. Both teams couldn't get any offense going until SUNY Canton scored in the top of the 4th. With the score only 2-1 the Mount rallied in the bottom of the 5th and put up three runs, going ahead 5-1. However, the celebration was short lived. SUNY Canton scored 4 runs in the top of the 6th, and tied the game. It was scoreless until the bottom of the 8th inning when the Mount decided enough was enough. The Mount Saint Mary College bats came ALIVE! Ten runs. Yes, you read that correctly, the Mount put up ten runs in the bottom of the 8th and put the mercy rule into affect as the game was ended in the 8th.
Starting pitcher
Michael Pisseri got the no-decision for the Mount, allowing 5 runs on 6 hits over 5.2 innings. He struck out 3 batters and walked 3.
Peter Pappalardo (1-0) earned the win in relief, pitching 2.1 scoreless innings and striking out 3 batters.
Game 2
Despite a strong offensive showing in the top of the 4th inning, the Mount was unable to overcome a slow start and an offensive explosion by Roger Williams.
How it Happened
Roger Williams jumped out to an early lead, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning on a wild pitch, a sacrifice fly, and a single. They would tack on another run in the third before the Mount bats came alive.
In the top of the 4th, MSMC plated three runs thanks to a combination of walks, wild pitches, and timely hitting. Junior outfielder
Tyler Van De Bogart cracked a three-run home run, his first of the season, to highlight the inning.
However, Roger Williams responded in a big way in their half of the 4th, scoring 12 runs on eight hits and three Mount errors. The Knights were unable to recover from the big inning.

Looking Ahead
The Mount will have a day off tomorrow before returning to action on Thursday for the final day of the RussMatt Invitational. They will play SUNY Oneonta and Lakeland University.

Trevor Purcell will be looking for his team to bounce back after today's tough loss.
