Tough Start for Knights On The Road

Fredericksburg, VA- The Mount Saint Mary College Knights (0-2) opened their season with a doubleheader against the University of Mary Washington Eagles (2-0) on Saturday, February 10th in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Despite valiant efforts in both games, the Knights fell short in both contests.

Game 1: Mary Washington 18, Mount Saint Mary College7

The Eagles got off to a hot start in the first game, scoring five runs by the second inning and never looking back.MSMC fought back with a five-run rally in the sixth inning, but it wasn't enough to overcome the early deficit.

Aidan Marshall led the offensive charge for the Knights, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a double.   Liam Horan took the loss on the mound, pitching two innings and allowing ten runs.

Game 2: Mary Washington 5, Mount Saint Mary College 2

The second game was a much closer affair, with both teams battling for every run. The Knights were held scoreless until the eighth inning, when they plated two runs. 

Daniel Mack and Luke Barone each drove in a run for Mount Saint Mary College. Nick Torres took the loss on the mound, allowing one run in four innings. Ty Lowe came on in relief and pitched a scoreless inning to earn the save for the Eagles.

Head Coach Trevor Purcell Comments:

"We came up empty in the win column today, but I am extremely happy with the way this team fought and battled until the end of both games," said Head Coach Trevor Purcell. "They showed a lot of heart and stayed together. This is a tough group and we will continue to get better."

Looking Ahead:

The Knights will look to bounce back tomorrow when they face Mary Washington again for a single game at 10:00 AM.
