Rapid Recap
Mount Saint Mary was the underdog coming into today's match but did not play as such to start. The Knights did a pretty good job possessing the ball and strung together some solid passes as they had plenty of chances in the first half.
Jeremy Burgos made a great move to beat his defender up the right wing, holding onto the ball just a little too long as the Valiants keeper was able to cut off his angle and make the save. Both teams tested each other's goalies early on but to no avail.
Marco Mazzarelli did what he does best this match dancing past defenders and nearly turning a one against three into a goal for the Knights. In the 22nd minute, Manhattanville capitalized off a rebound and did the exact same thing two minutes later to take a 2-0 lead. The Knights did not lay down as
Carson Macur served a beautiful ball into the box off a set piece where
Sam Bevevino headed the ball into the net with an acrobatic dive to make the score 2-1. The Valiants snuck one in with seconds remaining in the half to make it 3-1.
The offensive chances slowed down in the second half as Manhattanville looked to slow the tempo and play more defensively with their two-goal lead. The Knights continued to push up with hopes of forcing a bad mistake from the Valiants and they did just that. In the 72nd minute, a Manhattanville defender held onto the ball too long and
Marco Mazzarelli picked his pocket, dribbled past the goalie, and practically laid it into the goal cutting their deficit to one. The Knights searched for the equalizer in the closing minutes but were unable to find that one goal they needed. The Valiants connected on a through ball that gave them a fast break and goal in the 86th minute to close out the Mount 4-2.
