Newburgh, NY- The Men of Mount Saint Mary faced off against a very strong Middlebury College team this evening. Even though Coach Longacre was faced with the challenge of fielding a team with a few key players missing due to nagging injuries, he was still confident in his team. While the night did not fall in the favor of the Knights, there were a few moments that showed the true grit that this team has.
Caesar Martinez put in a heroic effort in goal, seeing a total of 31 shots, 20 of which were on goal as well as 8 corner kicks.
Marco Mazzarelli and
Peter Ramirez lifted the spirts of the team and crowd when they combined late in the first half and scored the first goal of the season for the team. Two true workhorses for the team were
Quinn Tynan and
Marco Mazzarelli, they controlled much of the transition work in the middle third and began each counter-attack when the defense was able to shut down the panthers.
Look for the Men to take the field again September 10, at 1pm. They will be going up against their first Skyline conference opponent, Yeshiva University.
