In a Hard Fought Battle, Knights fall to New Paltz

Newburgh, NY- Tonight the Mount Saint Mary College Knights hosted the Hawks from SUNY New Paltz.  Coming off a close match up on the road against St. Mary's College of Maryland, the team came out early in the game with plenty of energy.

From the first whistle the Knights went on the attack and went right after the Hawks defense. The energy in the middle and final third was something the Knights have been looking for all season.  The Hawks were on their heels for the first 5 minutes of the game, when a quick transition ball out of the defense caught the Knights off guard, and the Hawks got on the board.

It was a tough first half for the home team.  New Paltz went on a run and brought the score to 4-0 at the half.

Coach Lyn worked his magic during half time, and the team once again were hot out of the gate.  This time scoring in the first minute of the half.  Senior, Raina Quinones, received a ball that popped out of a scrum near the midfield and took it down the right wing.  Taking a shot from a difficult angle, just high enough to sail over the keeper's outstretched hands but placed well enough to kiss the inside of the far post and find the back of the net.

The team in the second half looked completely different, the passing was crisp, communication was on point, and the 11 Knights moved together.  Outstanding plays in the defense were made by Faith Welsh, Maria Baldwin, and Alexa Centrone, helping Mary Langan in net (taking over at half for Christina Kakavas).

Mount Saint Mary will be on the road Saturday the 16th, as they travel to Saratoga Springs to take on Skidmore College.
