How It Happened
- Morris set the tone early for the Knights, retiring the first eight batters she faced, including five by strikeout.
- Mount Saint Mary had an immediate threat in the first inning following back-to-back singles from Ferara and Rory Littman (Rancho Cordero, Calif.) to put runners at the corners with no one out.
- Old Westbury starter, Julia Pastrana, retired the next three Knights in order to keep the Mount off the board.
- Old Westbury put together a threat of its own in the top of the fourth when Alaina Reilly and Madison Danin drew back-to-back walks to start the inning.
- A two-out free pass to Hillary Bennett following a groundout and a foul out, loaded the bases for the Panthers, but Angelina Fernandez lined out to right to end the inning.
- Mount Saint Mary got another runner to third in the fifth without scoring before finally breaking through in the sixth with the only two runs of the contest.
- Dana Donnelly (Yulan, N.Y.) led off the sixth for the Mount with a lined single to center field.
- Kaeli McAnally (Bay Shore, N.Y.) moved Donnelly to second with a sacrifice bunt before Ferara doubled to left center field to chase Donnelly home with the game's first run.
- After Ferara advanced to third on an error, Samantha Bendig (Tampa, Fla.) brought her home with a sacrifice fly to give the Mount a two-run cushion.
- Old Westbury would not go quietly in the seventh, putting the tying runs on base in the inning.
- Bennett drew a one-out walk before a Fernandez single put two runners on.
- Following a popup and Natalie Intrieri was hit with a pitch to load the bases, Morris struck out pinch hitter Jessica Tucci to end the game.
