Purchase, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Softball team opened the double-elimination portion of the 2023 Skyline Conference Championship Thursday afternoon with a 3-0 loss to top-seeded Manhattanville. Three different Knights finished with a single in the game and
Bridget Morris (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) recorded five strikeouts in the circle.

Thursday's loss stops a five-game winning streak for the Knights and moves it to 20-18 overall on the season. Manhattanville wins its 31
st consecutive game and improves to 35-4 overall on the year.

How It Happened
- Mount Saint Mary was held off the board in the first after a lead off walk was drawn by Olivia Ferara (Middletown, N.Y.).
- Manhattanville got all the scoring it would need in the home half of the inning after putting together a two-out rally.
- After Ferara made a catch at the wall in center for the second out of the inning, Amaya Esparza singled to right field and advanced on the throw to to give the Valiants two runners in scoring position.
- Olivia Fasce, who walked with one out in the frame, later came home on a wild pitch to give Manhattanville an early 1-0 lead.
- Mount Saint Mary would get its first hit in the top of the second, a two-out infield single from Riley Norwood (East Haven, Conn.), but would not advance her past first base.
- Manhattanville expanded its lead to the final 3-0 decision in the home half of the fourth, taking advantage of two hits and a walk.
- Sarah Harker walked to lead off the frame and came all the way around to score on a double from Esparza a batter later.
- Esparza came home with the game's final tally on a sacrifice fly from Juliana Parkes.
- Following another a single from Ferara in the third, the Mount went until the seventh without a base runner when Samantha Bendig (Tampa, Fla.) shot a leadoff single down the right field line. Â

- Ferara finished the game 1-for-2 with a walk.
- Bendig went 1-for-2.
- Norwood rounded out the contest 1-for-2.
- Morris pitched well in defeat, working 5.0 innings and allowing three runs on three hits. She fanned five and walked three for the Knights.
- Grace MacDonald (Concord, N.H.) worked the final inning, allowing two hits and picking up a strikeout.

- Esparza went 2-for-3 with a double, run scored and an RBI.
- Walsh finished 2-for-3 with a pair of stolen bases.
- Harker rounded out the victory 1-for-2 with a walk and a run scored.
- Fasce drew a walk and scored a run.
- Parkes drove in a run.
- Charli Shinstine was dominant in the circle in moving to 20-0 on the season. She allowed three singles, walked one and struck out 13 in the victory.

- The Knights will play an elimination game on Friday at 12:30 p.m. against the loser of the Farmingdale State and St. Joseph's-Brooklyn game to be played Thursday afternoon.
- Manhattanville takes on the winner of the aforementioned contest in the winner's bracket at 10:00 a.m.
