Purchase, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Lacrosse team played its final regular season road game on Wednesday, falling at Manhattanville by a score of 18-6.
Kate Crooker (Boonton, N.J.) and
Karlie Ferrucci (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) each recorded three points and
Liz Petrellese (Levittown, N.Y.) totaled 11 saves in goal.
Wednesday's loss drops Mount Saint Mary to 5-10 overall on the season and 2-5 in conference play, while Manhattanville improves to 12-3 overall and 5-2 against league rivals.
How It Happened
- A spirited first 15 minutes featured nine goals with the Valiants taking a slim 5-4 advantage into the second frame.
- After Manhattanville scored the first two goals of the game, the Mount came back with the next three to grab its only lead of the game.
- Crooker and Ferrucci sparked the run with a goal and an assist apiece for the Knights.
- Manhattanville answered the Mount's run with a three-goal spurt of its own, getting a pair of tallies from Pietra Cabral, to move back in front 5-3 with 2:05 left in the first period.
- Erica Schmidgall (North Massapequa, N.Y.) got the Mount back to within a goal with a tally with 1:14 left in the stanza.
- The Valiants broke the game open in the second frame, outscoring the Knights 7-1.
- Manhattanville scored the first five goals of the quarter, including three markers from Marisa D'Angelo, to surge in front 10-4.
- Crooker stopped the run with her second of the game with 1:58 left before halftime, but the Valiants got two more goals in the final half minute of the quarter to take a 12-5 lead into the intermission.
- Coming out of halftime, Manhattanville scored the only four goals of the third frame and two of the three goals in the final stanza to pull away for the victory.
- Maia Dienos (Saugerties, N.Y.) scored the Mount's only goal of the second half with 2:48 left to play.
For The Knights
- Crooker scored two goals and added an assist for the Knights to go along with a groundball, caused turnover and three draw controls.
- Ferrucci scored once and assisted on two goals, adding a groundball.
- Schmidgall scored twice for the Knights.
- Briana Fassett (New Milford, Conn.) and Maggie Horan (Stony Point, N.Y.) each finished with three groundballs and a caused turnover.
- Petrellese turned aside 11 shots, reaching double figures in saves for the ninth time this season, and led the Knights with five groundballs.
For The Valiants
- D'Angelo and Maura Kelly each posted five goals and seven points with Kelly closing a strong all-around game with four draw controls, three caused turnovers and a groundball.
- Cabral tallied four times and posted five points to go along with three groundballs.
- Kaci Pierce produced a hat trick and a caused turnover.
- Abbey Playle won 13 draw controls and collected five groundballs.
- Britney Sirota made nine saves in the victory and led all players with eight groundballs.
