Newburgh, N.Y. – Playing host to the top seed in the upcoming Skyline Conference Championship, the Mount Saint Mary College Men's Lacrosse team battled hard in a 12-6 defeat to the Maritime Wednesday night.
Maxwell Green Wright (Central Islip, N.Y.) and
Xavier Rodriguez (Hackettstown, N.J.) each scored twice with
Kenny Leen (Miller Place, N.Y.) turning aside 17 shots in goal.

Wednesday's loss drops Mount Saint Mary to 4-7 overall on the season and 3-3 in conference play, while Maritime wins its 11
th straight game and improves to 12-5 while finishing the conference schedule a perfect 7-0.

How It Happened
- Mount Saint Mary got off to a fast start when Anthony Paggiotta (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) won the opening face-off to Joseph Angelillo (Pompton Plains, N.J.) who streaked down the middle of the field and potted his second goal of the season just 17 seconds into the tilt.
- From there Maritime time scored the final three goals of the first quarter and the next five goals overall to grab a 5-1 lead on a Parker Reilly goal just over four minutes into the second period.
- Green Wright stopped the run with his first goal of the game at the 10:15 mark of the second stanza, but Maritime tallied three of the final four goals of the first half to carry an 8-3 lead into the intermission.
- The two sides alternated goals in the third period, with Maritime opening the scoring on a Patrick Schnell tally at the 12:05 mark.
- Rodriguez got on the board with his first of the game to cut the Mount's deficit to 9-4, but Maritime responded with a Matthew Weigand tally nearly five minutes later to move back in front 10-4.
- Green Wright finished off a man-up goal in the final half minute of the third quarter to bring the Knights to within 10-5 heading to the final 15 minutes.
- Connor Tomich scored back-to-back goals just over a minute apart in the fourth quarter to push the visitors' lead to 12-5 with 9:35 left to play.
- Rodriguez cut the disadvantage to the final 12-6 decision with a man-up goal with 1:04 remaining in the contest.

- Green Wright scored twice, secured a groundball and caused a turnover.
- Ryan Olmstead (Millbrook, N.Y.) assisted on two goals, picked up a groundball and forced a turnover.

- Leen continued his strong rookie season in goal with 17 saves, reaching double-figures in saves for the ninth straight game and 10th time this season. He added three groundballs to his save total on the night.

- Charles Longo and Reilly each scored twice and assisted on a goal with Reilly securing six groundballs.
