Knights Set for Conference Clashes With Farmingdale State, Manhattanville

Knights coming off win against Purchase

Newburgh, N.Y. – Coming off a 10-goal victory over Purchase in the conference opener on April 5, the Mount Saint Mary College Men's Lacrosse team will take on league rivals Farmingdale State on the road Tuesday night and Manhattanville at home Sunday afternoon. At A Glance: Mount Saint Mary scored a victory in its conference opener for the first time since 2018 on April 5 when it dispatched Purchase at Kaplan Field by a score of 15-5. The win stopped a four-game losing streak for the Mount and sends it to Farmingdale State Tuesday night with a 3-4 overall record and a 1-0 mark in conference play.
 
Maxwell Green Wright (Central Islip, N.Y.) and Mike Travers (Staten Island, N.Y.) are tied for the team lead with 20 points apiece with Green Wright leading the team in goals with 13 and Travers providing a team-high 10 assists. Travers finished off the Purchase victory with four goals and three helpers for the Mount.
 
Larry Frank (Staten Island, N.Y.) has produced 15 points to date on the strength of eight goals and seven helpers while adding 16 groundballs. Ryan Olmstead (Millbrook, N.Y.), who notched a hat trick against the Panthers, checks in with seven goals and eight points to go along with 18 groundballs.
 
Xavier Rodriguez (Hackettstown, N.J.), Nick Gurello (Selden, N.Y.) and Joe Keating (Pleasantville, N.Y.) all support the offense with five goals, while Sal Gallucci (Massapequa, N.Y.) has amassed nine points, scoring four times and assisting on five other goals.
 
Joseph Angelillo (Pompton Plains, N.Y.) sits atop the team leaderboard in both groundballs (28) and caused turnovers (11) with Carmine Comitini (Staten Island, N.Y.) adding 16 groundballs and nine forced turnovers. Tim Doyle (Selden, N.Y.) supports the defensive effort for the Mount with seven caused turnovers and 22 groundballs.

Anthony Paggiotta (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) has won 62 face-offs to date for the Mount, including 14 in Wednesday's win over Purchase, and ranks second on the team with 25 groundballs.
 
In goal, Kenny Leen (Miller Place, N.Y.) is in the midst of a strong rookie season for the Knights. Leen has made at least 14 saves in each of the team's last four outings and ranks fifth in the Skyline Conference in total stops. Leen is working to a .539 save percentage and a 10.87 goals against average, marks that rank third and sixth in the league.
 
A Look At The Rams: Farmingdale State had a nine-game winning streak stopped with a 15-8 loss to USMMA on Saturday and begins play on Tuesday with a 9-2 overall record and an 0-1 mark against league rivals.
 
Farmingdale State features four players with at least 20 goals on the season, led by 28 markers from Thomas Stock. In addition to his goal total, Stock leads the team with 18 assists and 46 points while adding 15 groundballs and five caused turnovers.
 
Jake Wandle sits just behind Stock with 42 points, scoring 25 times and assisting on 17 goals with Jack Gilbride totaling 33 points on the strength of 23 goals and 10 helpers. Rob Varello checks in with 20 goals and 31 points for the Rams.
 
Christian Lembo and Gino Luchetti anchor the back line for the Rams, forcing 28 and 21 turnovers, respectively. Lembo adds 42 groundballs, good for second on the team, with Luchetti scooping 41.
 
Antonio Kaminskey has won 134 face-offs to date, leading the conference in face-off victories. Kaminskey adds 83 groundballs on the season, also tops in the conference.
 
In goal, Dan Erler has started 10 of the Rams' 11 contests and holds a .610 save percentage and a 7.23 goals against average while turning aside 97 shots. Erler leads the conference in goals against average and save percentage and sits fourth in total saves.
 
Recent History: Since 2010, the Mount's first varsity season, the two teams have met 12 times with Farmingdale State coming away victorious on 11 occasions. The Mount's lone victory, a 9-7 triumph, came in the aforementioned Skyline opener in 2018.
 
Previewing The Valiants: Manhattanville suffered a 17-9 loss to Maritime in its Skyline opener on April 8 and enters a Tuesday tilt against USMMA with a 4-6 overall record and a 0-1 mark against league rivals.
 
Nick Cornelia leads the team and the Skyline Conference with 37 goals, adding 13 assists for 50 points which is also tops in the league. Jesse McGrath adds 19 markers and 31 points with Sean Larkin posting 21 points on the strength of 17 goals and four helpers. Tyler Berch and Drew Palladino have scored 12 and 10 goals for the Valiants and has each registered 19 points.
 
Francisco Rosas has caused a team-high 13 turnovers heading into Tuesday's contest and scooped 28 groundballs, while Mike Mooney has forced 12 miscues and collected 21 groundballs for the Valiants. Nick Padovani leads the team in groundballs with 61 and face-off wins with 115.
 
Cody Johnston and Joe Ulzheimer have split the bulk of playing time in goal with Johnston starting seven times and playing 330:19 and Ulzheimer making three starts and amassing 264:05 worth of playing time. Johnson has stopped 81 shots and holds a 12.53 goals against average, while Ulzheimer has turned aside 66 shots and is working to a 13.63 goals against average.
 
Recent History: The Knights and Valiants have met six times since 2015 with each team scoring three victories. The Knights won back-to-back games in 2018 and 2019 before the Valiants scored a 9-8 double overtime win on April 20, 2022.
 
What's Next: Mount Saint Mary continues Skyline Conference play with trips to USMMA and St. Joseph's-L.I. on April 19 and 22.
