Knights Falter At Marywood

Ward totals two points, Petrellese makes 16 saves

Scranton, Pa. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Lacrosse team returned to the road Tuesday evening and suffered an 18-2 defeat at Marywood. Victoria Ward (Oceanside, N.Y.) recorded two points in the contest and goalie Liz Petrellese (Levittown, N.Y.) finished with a season-high 16 saves.
 
Tuesday's loss drops Mount Saint Mary to 1-2 overall on the season while Marywood inches above the .500 mark overall at 3-2.
 
How It Happened
  • Marywood got all the scoring it would need in the first stanza, outscoring the Knights 6-0.
  • Kaitlyn Smith and Natalie Yilanjian each scored two goals to lead the Pacers in the opening 15 minutes.
  • Marywood scored the only two goals of the second frame, getting a third tally from Smith and a marker from Kayla McCabe in the closing seconds to carry an 8-0 lead into the intermission.
  • Marywood finished the first half with a 32-5 advantage in shots and a 10-0 edge in draw controls.
  • The Pacers struck with the first three goals of the third quarter, including two from Emma Solomon, to open an 11-0 lead with 10:13 left in the period.
  • Mount Saint Mary broke through at the 8:13 mark of the third quarter when Ward finished off her sixth goal of the year.
  • McCabe and Smith scored in the final 6:30 of the period to send the Pacers to the fourth quarter with a 13-1 advantage.
  • Marywood scored the first five goals of the fourth stanza before Antonia Licardi (Pine Bush, N.Y.) tallied for the sixth time on the season with 15 seconds left in the contest. Ward picked up her team leading fourth assist on the goal for the Knights.
 
For The Knights
  • Ward closed the game with a goal and an assist, moving into sole possession of the team lead in assists with four and points with 10.
  • Licardi, who was named the Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week earlier on Tuesday, is tied with Ward for the team lead in goals with six. Licardi closed Tuesday's contest with a pair of groundballs.
  • Sinead Henry (Pearl River, N.Y.) picked up three groundballs and caused a turnover.
  • Shannon McGowan (Farmingdale, N.Y.) picked up two groundballs and caused two turnovers.
  • Karlie Ferrucci (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) caused a pair of miscues and scooped a groundball.
  • Petrellese finished the contest with a season-high 16 saves and reached double-figures in stops for the second time in three contests. Petrellese, who also led the Knights with five groundballs, has turned aside 39 opponent shots in three games worth of work.
 
For The Pacers
  • McCabe led the team with nine points, scoring three times and recording six assists to go along with three groundballs.
  • Avery Meifhan and Smith each scored four times and totaled five points.
  • Meighan finished off a big game with five groundballs, four caused turnovers and nine draw controls.
  • Smith wrapped up the win with eight draw controls and three groundballs.
  • Solomon, Yilanjian and Olivia Stollsteimer all finished with two goals.
  • Emily Dyminski made six saves to earn the win in goal.
