Women’s Lacrosse Tops Keuka For First Victory Of The Season

Six different Knights post multiple points

Keuka Park, N.Y. – Led by four points from Victoria Ward (Oceanside, N.Y.), the Mount Saint Mary College Women's Lacrosse team had six different players record at least two points on its way to a 13-6 road victory at Keuka Saturday afternoon.
 
Saturday's win evens the Mount's overall record at 1-1, while the Wolves open the 2023 season at 0-1.
 
How It Happened
  • The Knights got on the board first and scored three of the five goals in the opening stanza.
  • Antonia Licardi (Pine Bush, N.Y.) opened the scoring early in the first quarter with Carolyn Del Debbio (Southington, Conn.) and Ella Garner (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) also supplying first period markers.
  • After seeing Keuka knot the score at 3-3 early in the second frame, the Knights ripped off four straight goals to open a 7-3 advantage. Karli Ferrucci (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) scored twice over the run with Ward providing a pair of assists.
  • Brooke Bonetti stopped the run for the Wolves with just under three minutes to go before halftime to send the two teams into the intermission with the Mount leading 7-4.
  • Mount Saint Mary outscored Keuka 6-2 after halftime, including 2-0 in the third period.
  • Licardi scored her second of the game with 7:39 left in the third quarter with Ward tallying her first of the game with 3:18 left in the frame to give the Knights a 9-4 advantage.
  • Licardi opened the fourth quarter scoring with her third goal of the game and after Keuka cut its disadvantage to 10-6 with back-to-back goals, the Knights put the game away with the final three goals of the game.
  • Ward scored her second of the game with 5:45 left to play with Garner finishing off a hat trick with 2:30 remaining.
  • Erica Schmidgall (North Massapequa, N.Y.) added her second of the game with 1:19 left to close out the scoring in the game.
 
For The Knights
  • Ward posted a four-point game with two goals and two helpers, adding three groundballs and a draw control.
  • Garner and Licardi each scored three times for the Mount with Garner closing a strong game with two groundballs, two caused turnovers and a pair of draw controls.
  • Ferrucci and Schmidgall each posted two goals with Ferrucci leading the team with four draw controls.
  • Maggie Horan (Stony Point, N.Y.) led the Mount with four groundballs and added a caused turnover.
  • Kate Crooker (Boonton, N.J.) paced the Mount with three caused turnovers.
  • Del Debbio contributed three draw controls, two caused turnovers and a goal and an assist.
  • Liz Petrellese (Levittown, N.Y.) earned the in goal with nine saves.
 
For The Wolves
  • Julia Bauder scored three times, picked up three groundballs and caused two turnovers.
  • Sadie Bonnetti recorded two assists.
  • Madeline Greene led the team with four groundballs and five draw controls.
  • Alyssa Chase suffered the loss in goal, making 11 saves.
 
Game Statistics
  • Mount Saint Mary finished with a 30-24 advantage in shots, including a 24-15 edge in shots on goal.
  • The Knights held a slim 18-16 advantage in groundballs.
  • Draw controls went to the Wolves by a 13-10 margin.
  • Mount Saint Mary went 16-for-22 in clears.
  • Keuka finished 12-for-18 in clearing chances.
