Women’s Lacrosse Falls At Ramapo

Del Debbio scores two goals, McGowan and Schmidgall score one each

Mahwah, N.J - The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Lacrosse team dropped their first of two games this week Wednesday afternoon with a 15-4 loss against non-conference foe, Ramapo College. Carolyn Del Debbio (Southington, Conn.) led the way for the Knights scoring two goals, while Shannon McGowan (Farmingdale, N.Y) and Erica Schmidgall (North Massapequa, N.Y.) each added a goal apiece.

How It Happened
  • The Ramapo College Roadrunners started off the game on fire, scoring the first 10 goals of the game.
  • Kelly Griffin scored three of the Roadrunners first ten goals and Kaylie Gresek chipped in two goals of her own. Erin Smeilius, Ella Shade, Collen Mason, Caitlyn Featherstone and Bethany Glaser each scored a goal apiece to push the lead to 10-0 in the second quarter.
  • The Knights first goal of the game came with 3:13 left in the second period on a score by McGowan, and the Roadrunners responded with a goal of their own from Mary Rakowski at the end of the second, making the score 11-1 at halftime.
  • Kelly Griffin went on to score three more goals in the second half, and Erin Smeilus connected on the other Roadrunners goal of the half, giving her two on the day.
  •  For the Knights, Schmidgall was able to score the team's lone goal of the third quarter, and Del Debbio chipped in a season high two goals at the end the fourth quarter.
 
For The Knights
  • Del Debbio picked up a season high two goals and was able to secure one draw control.
  • McGowan and Schmidgall each added a goal apiece, scoring the Knights only other goals.
  • Maggie Horan (Stony Point, N.Y.) was able to scoop up three groundballs, and caused four turnovers, leading the Knights in both categories.
  • Briana Fassett (New Milford, Conn.) caused a season high two turnovers, while also picking up one groundball.
  • Gabby DiPalma (Howard Beach, N.Y.) also had her season high in caused turnovers, causing two on the night. She also picked up one groundball.
  • Victoria Ward (Oceanside, N.Y.) secured a season high six draw controls.
  • Kate Crooker (Boonton, N.J.) caused three turnovers.
  • Liz Petrellese (Levittown, N.Y.) suffered the loss on the night in goal, but was able to pick up 13 saves in the effort.
For the Roadrunners
  •  Griffin had a huge game, scoring six goals and picking up one assist on the night. She also picked up three groundballs, caused three turnovers and secured five draw controls.
  • Smeilus was one of two roadrunners with two goals, and she also picked up three ground balls and secured one draw control. Gresek was the other Roadrunner to score two goals on the night.
  • Glaser picked up three points, dishing out two assists on the night. She also picked up two ground balls, caused one turnover, and secured two draw controls.
  • Mason scored one goal, picked up one ground ball, caused one turnover, and had a team high six draw controls.
  • Featherstone and Shade each added a goal apiece to add to the Roadrunners 15-point effort.
  • Alyssa Curto was able to secure the win, only allowing four goals and picking up five saves.
Game Statistics
  • Ramapo finished with a 32-12 advantage in shots and a 28-9 edge in shots on goal.
  • Groundballs went Ramapo's way, with a 17-8 advantage on the night.
  • Ramapo was able to secure 14 draw controls, compared to Mount Saint Mary's eight.
  • Mount Saint Mary went 8-12 in clears while Ramapo went 12-12.
  • Both teams had 16 turnovers on the night.

  • Mount Saint Mary opens up Skyline Conference play Friday at Maritime College.
