Throggs Neck, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Lacrosse team began Skyline Conference play on Friday with a 20-3 road loss at Maritime.
Kate Crooker (Boonton, N.J.) led the offense with two points with
Karlie Ferrucci (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) adding a goal and four groundballs.
Friday's loss drops Mount Saint Mary to 3-6 overall on the season and 0-1 in Skyline Conference play, while Maritime improves to 6-2 overall and 1-0 in league action.
How It Happened
- The two teams traded the first two goals of the game with Avery Jillson Neuwirth opening the scoring for Maritime before Ferrucci knotted the score at 1-1 just over a minute into the contest.
- Following the Ferrucci tally, Maritime ripped off the final 10 goals of the first quarter and the only four goals of the second frame to carry a 15-1 lead into the intermission.
- Jenna Lesiewicz scored four first quarter goals for the Privateers and assisted on a fifth marker.
- Mary Cirelli opened the scoring in the third quarter for Maritime before Victoria Ward (Oceanside, N.Y.) stopped the scoring run for Maritime with her 16th goal of the season at the 3:48 mark.
- Crooker scored her first goal of the season with just over six minutes left to play in the contest before Nicole Johnson and Michelle Pecoraro closed out the scoring for Maritime in the final 3:29.
For The Knights
- Crooker posted her firs two points of the season in the game with a goal and an assist. Crooker rounded out the night with a groundball for the Knights.
- Ferrucci potted her 13th goal of the season and finished the night adding four groundballs, two caused turnovers and a draw control.
- Ward scored her team leading 16th goal of the season and equaled the team-high with three draw controls.
- Erica Schmidgall (North Massapequa, N.Y.) joined Ward with three draws in the game.
- Sinead Henry (Pearl River, N.Y.) caused a turnover and collected two groundballs.
- Liz Petrellese (Levittown, N.Y.) finished the night with seven saves in goal and matched the team-high with four groundballs.
For The Privateers
- Lesiewicz was one of three Maritime players with four goals, adding an assist, four groundballs and six draw controls.
- Johnson tallied four times and won a game-high nine draw controls.
- Gabrielle Nicololsi scored four goals.
- Jillson Neuwirth and Morgan Tracy each scored twice and assisted on a goal.
- Sarah Malone posted two caused turnovers and two groundballs.
- Liz Pomaro earned the win in goal for Maritime with five saves.
