Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Lacrosse team will be in action twice this week, playing non-conference games against FDU-Florham and Curry College. The Knights host the Devils on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. before traveling to Milton, Mass. to take on the Colonels Saturday. At A Glance: Mount Saint Mary will be in action on Wednesday for the first time since suffering a home loss to local foe Vassar on March 15. The Knights hold a 2-2 overall record through the season's first four contests.
Maxwell Green Wright (Central Islip, N.Y.) leads the scoring attack for the Mount, potting nine goals and registering 12 points in four contests.
Nick Gurello (Selden, N.Y.) checks in with five goals for the Knights with
Mike Travers (Staten Island, N.Y.) and
Larry Frank (Staten Island, N.Y.) each scoring four times. Travers leads the team in assists with five and is second on the squad with nine points.
Carmine Comitini (Staten Island, N.Y.) sits atop the team leader board in caused turnovers with seven and has collected eight groundballs.
Joseph Angelillo (Pompton Plains, N.J.) and
Tim Doyle (Selden, N.Y.) are tied for the team lead in groundballs with 14 with Angelillo forcing six turnovers and Doyle causing five miscues.
Anthony Paggiotta (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) has won 25 face-offs to date for the Mount and ranks third on the team with 11 groundballs.
Kenny Leen (Miller Place, N.Y.) has seen all the action in goal through four tilts for the Mount and has turned aside 37 opponent shots. Leen is working to a .446 save percentage for the Knights and holds a 11.26 goals against average.
Scouting FDU-Florham: After starting the season 3-1, the Devils have dropped their last four decisions and come to town on Wednesday sporting a 3-5 overall record. FDU-Florham suffered a tight 13-10 loss to Lake Forest in Florida in their last outing on March 18.
Lucas Berghahn leads the team with 18 goals and 26 points to go along with 18 groundballs. Michael Stewart and Brenden Fabin have each scored 13 goals with Fabin adding eight caused turnovers and 22 groundballs. Robert Nawrocki checks in with 10 goals and 14 points for the Devils.
Zachary Van Zile paces the team with 18 caused turnovers to go along with 26 groundballs with Aidan Bonn forcing 11 miscues while adding an assist and 18 groundballs. Trevor Arnone has won 78 face-offs to date for the Devils and leads the team with 34 groundballs.
In goal, Dalton Povilaitis has started each of the Devils' first eight games and has made 103 saves. He holds a .488 save percentage to go along with a 14.81 goals against average.
Recent History: The Knights and Devils have played just once previous to Wednesday with the Devils scoring a tight 5-4 win in Madison, N.J. on March 23, 2022.
Previewing Curry: The Colonels enter a midweek game at Norwich on Wednesday with a 2-4 overall record and are coming off a 7-5 victory over Gordon on March 18.
Pat Modoono and Nick Perfetuo sit atop the team leaderboard with eight goals apiece. Brody Dalzell and Stephen Stackhouse are tied for the lead with six assists apiece, with Dalzell pacing Curry with 13 points through six contests.
Will Karszes leads the way for Curry with 16 caused turnovers and adds 12 groundballs. Jack Canto and Anthony Lewis have each collected a team-high 24 groundballs with Nick Flanigan scooping 17 groundballs while winning a team-high 32 face-offs.
Austin Brown has seen the bulk of action in goal for Curry to date, playing 301:26 of a possible 366:44. He has made 47 saves and holds a .540 save percentage and a 7.96 goals against average.
Recent History: Saturday's contest will be the first between the Knights and Colonels.
