Softball Topped By Wisconsin-Lutheran, Springfield

Morris fans 10 against Springfield

Clermont, Fla. – The Mount Saint Mary College Softball team closed out day three of its Florida trip with 6-1 losses to both Wisconsin-Lutheran and Springfield. Bridget Morris (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) finished the Springfield game with 10 strikeouts.

How It Happened
  • Mount Saint Mary opened the scoring with a single run in the top of the third frame.
  • Following a leadoff walk to Melanie McClinchey (Medford, N.Y.), she swiped second and advanced to third on a groundout.
  • McClinchey later scored the Mount's only run of the game on a two-out single to center off the bat of Samantha Bendig (Tampa, Fla.).
  • The Warriors jumped in front with two runs in the home half of the fourth and plated two more in both the fifth and sixth frames.
  • Lexi Martin tied the score with a solo home run and Addison Gelande put the Warriors in front for good with a run scoring double.
  • Jackey Farias and Taylor Peterson each homered in the fifth for Wisconsin-Lutheran with the Warriors adding a pair of unearned runs in the sixth to close out the scoring in the game.
 
For The Knights
  • The Knights were held to three hits in the game with Alicia Killeen (Nesconset, N.Y.), Bendig and Sofia Gannon (East Patchogue, N.Y.) all singling.
  • McClinchey walked, stole a bag and scored the team's only run.
  • Bendig added a walk and drove in her third run of the season.
  • Grace MacDonald (Concord, N.H.) suffered her first loss of the season, working 4.2 innings and allowing four runs on four hits while fanning five.

How It Happened
  • The Pride got all the scoring it would need in the top of the fourth, plating three runs.
  • Michaela Ponticello, Kate Kotsetos and Carissa Pecchia all drove in runs in the inning.
  • Springfield moved in front 4-0 in the sixth before the Knights got on the board with their only run in the home half of the inning.
  • Laura Dentato (Farmingdale, N.Y.) singled home Rory Littman (Rancho Cordova, Calif.) who singled to leadoff the inning.
  • Springfield closed out the scoring in the game with two more runs in the seventh on a two-out, two-run single from Lily McCauliffe.
 
For The Knights
  • The Knights went without an extra base hit in the game, getting singles from Killeen, Littman, Olivia Ferara (Middletown, N.Y.), Bendig, Dentato and Sophia Reed (Rockaway, N.J.).
  • Dentato drove in her fourth run of the season.
  • Morris worked a complete game, allowing five earned runs on 12 hits. She fanned 10 against just one walk.
 
What's Next
  • Following an off day on Wednesday, the Knights will take on Macalester and Western New England on Thursday.
