Knights Fall To Keystone, St. Scholastica

Knights in action Tuesday against Rutgers-Newark

Davenport, Fla. – The Mount Saint Mary College Baseball team continued its Florida trip on Monday with losses to Keystone and St. Scholastica, falling 10-5 and 15-0, respectively. The Knights continue their southern swing Tuesday with a matchup against Rutgers-Newark.

How It Happened
  • After falling behind 1-0 through one inning, the Knights jumped in front 3-1 in the top of the fifth.
  • Jack Goodwin (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) laced a two-run triple and crossed with the inning's third run on a double off the bat of Anthony Franco (Franklin Square, N.Y.).
  • Keystone stormed right back with three runs in the home half of the inning and broke the game open with five tallies in the bottom of the seventh and a single run in the eighth.
  • The Knights mounted a rally in their final at-bat, plating two runs on just one hit.
  • Anthony Picone (Salisbury Mills, N.Y.) started the inning with a walk and later advanced to third on a bunt single from Goodwin.
  • Both runners would eventual cross on run scoring groundouts to close out the scoring in the game.
 
For The Knights
  • Goodwin, Franco and Devin Tait (Staten Island, N.Y.) all finished 2-for-5 with Goodwin scoring twice and Franco driving in two runs.
  • Robert Brust (Shirley, N.Y.) and Cullen Roper (Stratford, Conn.) each finished with a hit and a run scored for the Knights.
  • Liam Horan (Stony Point, N.Y.) worked 5.0 innings and struck out six in his second start of the season.
 
St. Scholastica 15 – Mount Saint Mary 0 (F/7)
How It Happened
  • The Saints did all of their scoring in the first four innings of the contest, plating three runs in the first, two runs in the second and fourth and eight runs in the third inning.
  • Andrew Rott delivered the big blow in the eight-run third with a grand slam.
  • Mount Saint Mary was held without a hit until the sixth inning when Alex Nalewajik (Staten Island, N.Y.) picked up a two-out single.

  • The Knights take on Rutgers-Newark on Tuesday before closing out the trip with two games against Cobleskill on Thursday.
