Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Basketball team suffered its second straight loss following a hard fought 57-55 defeat at the hands of visiting Manhattanville Wednesday evening.
Katie Smith (Goshen, N.Y.) led the scoring attack for the Knights, matching the game-high with 18 points.

Wednesday's loss drops Mount Saint Mary to 15-5 overall on the season and 12-3 in Skyline Conference play, while Manhattanville improves to 17-3 and 13-2 against league rivals.

First Half
- The two sides would trade the first six buckets of the game before the Knights got back-to-back layups from Asia Rivera (Saddle Brook, N.J.) and Kate Hughes (Belle Harbor, N.Y.) to pull in front 10-6 with 5:53 left in the opening period.
- Following a Manhattanville triple from Jamison Agostino, Rivera converted a basket with 5:18 left in the quarter to push the Knights in front 12-9.
- The Rivera layup would be the Mount's final field goal of the opening 10 minutes, as it managed just a free-throw from Brianna Guglielmo (Smithtown, N.Y.) the rest of the frame.
- Manhattanville scored eight of the final nine points of the first period to grab a 17-13 lead after 10 minutes of play.
- A pair of Guglielmo free-throws to open the second period cut the Mount's disadvantage to just two points, but the Knights would not be able to pull back in front until a Hughes layup with 5:11 left before halftime gave them a 22-21 edge.
- The Valiants quickly regained a 24-22 advantage, but the Mount used a Ciarra Quinn (Bayside, N.Y.) bucket and a free-throw from Kaeli McAnally (Bay Shore, N.Y.) over the final 1:34 of the quarter to carry a slim 25-24 lead into the intermission.
- Mount Saint Mary was held to 29.4-percent shooting prior to halftime and went without a three-pointer in nine attempts.
- Manhattanville converted at 34.5-percent in the first half, including a 1-for-4 showing from three-point range.

Second Half
- The Knights got a Hughes layup coming out of halftime to pull in front 27-24 before the Valiants put together a 6-2 stretch to pull back in front 30-29.
- Neither team would hold a lead larger than three points in the quarter, with the Knights grabbing a 39-36 advantage on a Cailean Nolan (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) conversion in the final minute.
- Manhattanville got a free-throw from Gabby Tucker in the closing second of the third stanza to send the two teams to the final 10 minutes with the Knights holding a 39-37 lead.
- Mount Saint Mary spread its lead to 41-37 on a Smith jumper to open the fourth period scoring, but Manhattanville answered with the next five points to jump back in front 42-41.
- The Knights responded with the next four tallies, including a Smith triple, to grab a 46-42 lead with 7:09 left to play.
- Manhattanville answered again, this time with 11 straight points to surge in front 54-47.
- A Livi Correia three-pointer gave the visitors a 49-46 lead within the run and Amanda Orlando supplied six points.
- Manhattanville moved its lead out to a game-high nine points on a pair of Julianna Kascic free-throws with 2:22 left to play.
- Following the Kascic conversions from the line, the Knights would score eight of the final nine points of the game and have a look at the horn to tie.
- Erin Smith (Goshen, N.Y.) and Rivera made four straight free-throws to cut the disadvantage to 56-51 with 1:27 left.
- Back-to-back buckets from K. Smith following Manhattanville turnovers sliced the deficit to 56-55 with 46 seconds left on the clock.
- Trailing by one, the Mount could not connect on two tries from long distance and following a Correria free-throw to make the score 57-55 had a look at the horn that would not fall.
- Mount Saint Mary shot 39.3-percent overall in the second half, but went just 2-for-13 from three-point range.
- Manhattanville shot an even 50.0-percent after halftime, including 63.6-percent in the fourth quarter.

For The Knights
- Smith equaled the game-high and was the only Knight in double-figures, going 8-for-14 from the floor with a three-pointer. She added three assists and three steals for the Knights.
- Rivera contributed nine points and a team-high eight rebounds to go along with three steals.
- Hughes totaled six points and four boards.
- Guglielmo and Nolan each came off the bench to score five points.

For The Valiants
- Orlando led three players in double-figures with 18 points, going 7-for-15 from the floor.
- Niyona Smith contributed 11 points, eight rebounds and three blocked shots.
- Kascic produced 10 points and eight rebounds while handing out a game-high four assists.
Game Statistics
- Mount Saint Mary was held to 33.9-percent shooting overall in the game, including a 2-for-22 showing from three-point range.
- Manhattanville shot 41.5-percent overall and also struggled from long distance, going 2-for-11.
- Mount Saint Mary finished with the advantage in points off of turnovers, 25-16, and fast break points, 8-0.
- The Valiants held the edge in second chance points, 14-9, and points in the paint, 36-32.
