Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Basketball team plays a pair of home Skyline Conference contests this week when it plays host to Purchase on Wednesday and Manhattanville Saturday afternoon. Live Stats and Video will be available for each game for those unable to attend.
At A Glance: Mount Saint Mary begins the week with a 7-14 overall record and a 4-8 mark in Skyline Conference play. The Knights had a two-game run stopped on Saturday evening following an 84-61 road loss at Sarah Lawrence, giving the Gryphons the season sweep of the Knights with the two teams tied for the final berth in the Skyline Conference Championship.
Connor Cyran (Garfield, N.J.), who poured in 18 points on Saturday at Sarah Lawrence, leads three Knights in double-figures with 12.1 points per game. Cyran shoots 48.8-percent from the field and is tied for second on the team with 19 three-point field goals. Cyran is good for 6.1 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.3 steals per outing for the Mount.
Elijah Barnett (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) checks in with 11.9 points per night to go along with nearly five rebounds and two assists.
Jayden Figueroa (New Windsor, N.Y.) leads the team on the glass with 8.6 rebounds per game to go along with a team-high 2.1 blocks and 11.0 points.
Chris Yearwood (Red Hook, N.Y.) is the team leader with 2.3 assists per game and has knocked down a team-high 25 three-pointers. Yearwood chips in 9.7 points per game for the Mount to go along with 2.6 rebounds and 1.2 steals.
Mount Saint Mary scores 68.0 points per game while shooting 42.5-percent overall, 28.1-percent from three-point range and 65.4-percent from the free-throw line.
Previewing Purchase: The Panthers stopped a five-game losing streak on Saturday with a 66-59 home victory over USMMA. The victory pushed Purchase to 8-13 overall and 3-9 in conference play, just a game behind both the Mount and Sarah Lawrence.
Matthew Phillips leads the Panthers in scoring and rebounding, producing 13.1 points and 9.9 rebounds per contest to go along with just shy of two blocks for Purchase.
Mark Morgan chips in 12.0 points for the Panthers, while Isaac Johnson is good for 10.1 points and just over four rebounds per night. Johnson is also the team's top distributor, handing out nearly two assists per contest to lead the team.
Purchase scores an even 70.0 points per game, good for third in the conference, but allows nearly 74 points per game, ranking 10
th in the league in scoring defense. The Panthers shoot 37.4-percent overall from the field, 27.5-percent from three-point range and 68.4-percent from the free-throw line.
Previous Meeting: The Knights traveled to Purchase on December 10 and outlasted the Panthers, 65-59, picking up their first conference victory of the season.
Mount Saint Mary was held to 39.2-percent shooting in the game and connected on only five three-pointers, but outscored Purchase 20-10 from the free-throw line. Barnett led four players in double-figures with 14 points, while Figueroa closed the victory with 10 points and 18 rebounds.
Recent History: The two teams have alternated wins and losses over the last five meetings, with the Panthers holding a slim 7-5 advantage in the series over the previous 12 matchups.
Scouting Manhattanville: The Valiants had a five-game winning streak stopped on Saturday following a 66-50 loss to Maritime. Manhattanville stands at 15-6 overall on the season heading into a Wednesday home game with Sarah Lawrence, and holds an 8-4 conference mark which is good for a tie for second place in the Skyline Conference North Division.
Tommy Lotito leads the way for the Valiants in nearly every statistical category, pacing the Valiants in scoring (14.7), assists (4.2) and steals (1.7) while joining Jackson Leech with a team-high 6.7 rebounds per game. Leech checks in with 12.7 points per game, ranking second on the team in scoring average.
Jake Dunn contributes nearly nine points per game to the offensive attack for Manhattanville and added 4.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists per night.
The Valiants rank sixth in the Skyline Conference in scoring at 69.1 points per game, but rank second in scoring defense, allowing just 66.8 points per game to their opponents. Manhattanville converts at 44.3-percent overall, ranking second in the conference, 30.5-percent from the three-point range and 68.7-percent from the free-throw line.
Previous Meeting: The two sides last met on January 3 in Purchase with Manhattanville coming away with a 79-60 victory.
The Knights were held to 36.7-percent shooting overall and went just 3-for-10 from three-point range, while the Valiants knocked down six triples and shot an efficient 49.2-percent for the game.
Barnett led the way for the Mount with 12 points, with Cyran recording a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Leech led four Valiants in double-figures with a game-high 19 points.
Recent History: Including the January 3 contest, the Valiants have won the last five meetings with the Knights and have collected 10 wins in 12 decisions since the start of the 2006-07 campaign.
