Men’s Basketball Suffers Quarterfinal Loss At Top-Seed Farmingdale State

Cyran, B. Graham score in double-figures

Farmingdale, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Basketball team saw its season come to a close Tuesday night following a 100-70 Quarterfinal loss at top-seed Farmingdale State in the 2023 Skyline Conference Championship. Connor Cyran (Garfield, N.J.) led the Mount with 13 points while Brenden Graham (Campbell Hall, N.Y.) matched his career-high with 11 points.
 
Tuesday's loss ends the Mount's season at 9-17 overall, while Farmingdale State advances to the Semifinal Round with a 19-7 overall record.
 
First Half
  • The Rams broke the game open early with a 17-0 run to start the contest over the first 5:16 of action.
  • Mount Saint Mary was held off the board until a B. Graham jumper at the 14:34 mark of the first half.
  • Mount Saint Mary cut the deficit to 17-7 on a Jayden Racca (New Fairfield, Conn.) three-pointer at the 13:09 mark of the first half.
  • The Knights' battled back to within eight points on a Cyran layup that made the score 19-11, but a Michael Notias jumper and a triple from Aaron Davis pushed the Rams' lead back out to 24-11.
  • The Rams built the lead back to 32-15 on a Corey Powell three-pointer and got the advantage to 20 points for the first time on a Macai John three-point play with 5:00 left before the break.
  • After whittling the disadvantage back down to 38-26 on a Cyran three-pointer, the Knights saw Farmingdale State close the first half on a 12-4 run.
  • Nick Hurowitz pushed the Farmingdale State lead to 19 points twice in the final 91 seconds, first with a three-pointer and then with a pair of free-throws.
  • Elijah Galloway sent the Rams into the intermission with a 50-30 lead following a free-throw in the closing seconds of the first half.
  • The Knights converted at 39.4-percent over the opening 20 minutes and went 3-for-12 from three-point range and just 1-for-5 from the free-throw line.
  • Farmingdale State shot an efficient 51.7-percent overall, including a blistering 6-for-11 from three-point range.
  • The Rams outscored the Mount from the free-throw line in the first half 14-1.
  • Racca led the Knights with eight points in the first half, going 3-for-6 from the floor with a pair of triples.
  • Hurowitz went 4-for-8 from the floor and hit three triples on his way for 15 first half points for the Rams.
 
Second Half
  • The Rams grew their lead to 55-30 on a Powell three-pointer early in the second half and would not allow the Knights closer than 20 points the rest of the way.
  • The Farmingdale State lead reached 30 points for the first time on a on a Notias jumper with just over nine minutes left in the game.
  • The Rams' advantage ballooned to a game-high 36 points, at 88-52, on a Jaden Barwicki three-pointer with 6:11 left in the contest.
  • A Matt Monaco (New City, N.Y.) bucket got the deficit down to 96-67 with just over a minute left.
  • Rob Tansey (Bellmore, N.Y.) later hit his first career three-pointer to close out the scoring in the game with two seconds left on the clock.
  • Mount Saint Mary improved to 48.5-percent shooting after halftime and connected on a pair of three-pointers.
  • Farmingdale State continued its hot shooting, converting at 46.2-percent overall after halftime, including a 5-for-12 effort from three-point range.
  • Miles Calame (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Jayden Figueroa (New Windsor, N.Y.) led the way for the Knights in the second half with seven points apiece.
  • Galloway and Notias each scored eight points after the break to pace the Rams.
 
For The Knights
  • Cyran finished with 13 points on 6-for-9 shooting to go along with three rebounds, two blocks and a pair of steals.
  • B. Graham scored 11 points for the third time this season, closing the night 5-for-10 from the floor, adding four rebounds and team-highs in assists and steals with three apiece.
  • Figueroa totaled nine points, seven rebounds and three blocks.
  • Elijah Barnett (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) and Racca each scored eight points.
 
For The Rams
  • Five players scored in double-figures for the Rams, led by 15 points from Hurowitz who closed out a double-double with a game-high 10 rebounds.
  • Powell went a perfect 3-for-3 from three-point range on his way to 14 points.
  • Galloway totaled 11 points and handed out three assists.
  • John and Notias each tallied 10 points in the win.
  • Jevon Santos put together a strong game with eight assists and two steals while chipping in six points.
 
Game Statistics
  • Mount Saint Mary shot 43.9-percent overall in the game, but struggled from three-point range and the free-throw line, going 5-for-20 and 7-for-17, respectively.
  • Farmingdale State finished the night shooting 48.5-percent overall, including an 11-for-23 showing from three-point range.
  • The Rams outscored the Mount from the free-throw line 23-7.
  • Points off of turnovers and fast break points went to the Rams 27-16 and 24-12, respectively.
  • The Knights held a 44-36 edge in paint points.

  • The Knights close the season at 9-17 overall.
  • Farmingdale State hosts Maritime on Thursday.
