Regular Season Concludes Against Old Westbury, St. Joseph’s-Brooklyn

Knights play final games before 2023 Skyline Conference Championship

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Basketball team plays its final two regular season games this week when it travels to Old Westbury on Wednesday night and hosts St. Joseph's-Brooklyn on Senior Day Saturday afternoon. At A Glance: The Knights enter the final week of the regular season with a 16-5 overall record and a 13-3 mark in Skyline Conference play. The Knights stopped a two-game slide in their last outing with an impressive 78-45 road victory at Sarah Lawrence.
 
The Knights feature just one playing scoring in double-figures to date on the season, but have five players averaging better than eight points in a balanced scoring attack. Katie Smith (Goshen, N.Y.) leads the way for the Mount, scoring 11.5 points per game on 42.7-percent shooting, and also paces the Mount with nearly four assists per contest.
 
Asia Rivera (Saddle Brook, N.J.) and Lauren Desrats (Warwick, N.Y.) each contribute 8.4 points per game with Rivera adding 4.6 rebounds and a team-high 2.4 steals, including a career-high nine thefts against Sarah Lawrence on Saturday. Desrats has knocked down a team-high 28 three-point field goals for the Knights.
 
Erin Smith (Goshen, N.Y.) and Kate Hughes (Belle Harbor, N.Y.) are each good for 8.3 points per game for the Mount with Hughes leading the way on the glass with just under five caroms per game. Smith, who matched her career-high with 18 points in Saturday's win, is second only to Desrats with 24 three-point field goals on the season.
 
Mount Saint Mary continues to lead the Skyline Conference in scoring with 73.9 points per game and scoring margin, outscoring opponents by better than 22 points per game. The Knights rank third in the league in scoring defense, allowing opponents to score just 51.5 points per game.

The Knights shoot 39.0-percent from the field overall, 28.5-percent from three-point range and 66.3-percent from the free-throw line. Mount Saint Mary leads the conference in steals with 295 and ranks second in assists with 352.
 
Scouting Old Westbury: The Panthers stopped a five-game losing streak on February 10 with a 75-56 victory over Pratt and enter Wednesday's contest at 2-19 overall and winless in 16 Skyline Conference outings.
 
Old Westbury scores just 42.8 points per game while shooting 27.2-percent overall, 21.1-percent from three-point range and 50.1-percent from the free-throw line.
 
Previous Meeting: The Knights and Panthers met at the Kaplan Center prior to Thanksgiving, with the Mount coming away with a 94-36 victory on November 19 in the Skyline Conference opener.
 
Marissa Campbell (Franklin, N.Y.) scored a career-high 14 points in the contest with Cailean Nolan (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) going 3-for-5 from three-point range on her way to 11 points. Twelve different Knights scored in the contest with seven players totaling at least eight points.
 
Mount Saint Mary shot 51.4-percent overall in the game and held convincing advantages in points in the paint, 52-14, points off of turnovers, 33-5, and fast break points, 16-2.
 
Recent History: Mount Saint Mary has won the last seven decisions in the series and is 26-6 against the Panthers since the start of the 2007-08 season.
 
A Look At The Bears: St. Joseph's-Brooklyn is coming off an 81-62 loss to Manhattanville on Tuesday and comes to town on Saturday with an 11-11 overall record and an 8-9 mark against Skyline Conference opponents. Tip-off on Saturday is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at the Kaplan Center with Senior Day festivities getting underway at 12:15 p.m.
 
Emma Kiley averages a double-double for the Bears, leading the team in scoring with 15.6 points, rebounds with 11.3 and blocks with 2.7. Kiley ranks second in the conference in rebounding and leads the league in blocked shots.
 
Destiny Hurt adds 15.2 points per game and 8.5 rebounds, while Aaniya Telford paces the team in steals with 2.0 per game while chipping in 6.0 points and handing out 3.1 assists.
 
Kristen Donovan is good for 9.5 points per game and is the team's top distributor, handing out 3.3 assists per game.
 
St. Joseph's scores 65.4 points per game on the season and shoots 35.1-percent overall, 28.4-percent from three-point range and 67.0-percent from the free-throw line.
 
Previous Meeting: The Knights went on the road and topped the Bears 85-60 on January 14. The Knights shot 33.7-percent in the game and knocked down eight three-pointers. The Bears were held to 30.4-percent shooting and a 5-for-22 effort from long distance.
 
E. Smith led the scoring attack with 18 points with K. Smith contributing 13 points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals. Rivera and Hughes support the offensive attack with 12 and 11 points, receptively, while Ciarra Quinn (Bayside, N.Y.) ripped down a team-high 10 rebounds.
 
Kiley led the way for the Bears with 16 points and 11 rebounds with Hurt also producing a double-double with 10 points and 11 boards. Telford totaled 10 points, seven rebounds and three assists.
 
Recent History: Including the road victory in January, the Mount has won the last three matchups with the Bears and is 13-2 against St. Joseph's since the start of the 2013-14 season.
 
What's Next: The Knights will learn their opponent for the Skyline Conference Championship after completion of play on Saturday. Date, time and opponent will be announced when they seeding information is made available.
