West Point, NY — The Knights Track and Field team had a strong start to their indoor season Saturday, when they traveled to West Point for the Army Crowell Open.
Maria Baldwin (Patchogue, N.Y.) set a new 400-meter dash record for the college, coming in at 1:03.91 and placing sixth overall in the event, followed by Faith Welsh (Goshen, N.Y.) in 14th (1:10.40) and Raina Quinones (West Babylon, N.Y.) in 15th (1:11.79).
Sarah Kannenberg (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) took fifth in the 500-meter dash with a time of 1:37.41.
Lily O'Brien also had strong performances in the women's Pentathlon, finishing in ninth overall for the event with 2064 points.
In the men's 1 mile race, Greg Casale (Staten Island, N.Y.) placed ninth overall with a time of 5:13.81. Joseph Carmona (Campbell Hall, N.Y.) also competed in the event, coming in 13th with a 5:39.12.
"Great start by both the men's and women's teams today, so happy Maria was able to get the indoor record for the 400-meter dash on her first try of the season," said Head Coach Fred Callo. "I'm looking forward to the indoor season in January, happy holidays to all."
