Purchase, NY- Motivation can come in all shapes and sizes, tonight it came in the form of cupcakes. Marvin has been a longtime supporter of the Mount Saint Mary College Athletics teams. He has been driving the buses for the MSMC teams for years, and to the coaches and players he is basically family. Seeing one of his teams down, he took it upon himself to provide some inspiration. Knowing exactly what they needed, Marvin baked the team the perfect batch of cupcakes and showed that no matter what, he believed in them. While they were on the road to play against the Panthers of Purchase College, Marvin's secret weapon was deployed.
They worked better than expected.
The power at the net tonight for MSMC was fierce.
Jonaiya Williams (13),
Erin Lema (10), and
Ava DiScala (9) combined for 32 total kills. The offense was set up by the duo of
Aubriana Boyce (17), and
Allie Kenney (13), who were the top two Knights with assists. Defensively
Vanessa Mleczko (14),
Erin Lema (11), and
Jonaiya Williams (9) topped the stats chart with digs.
Stats aside, Coach Strano and his team have been close all season but haven't been able to find that missing piece that would help them win. Coach Strano thinks tonight's success was from "how hard the girls worked at practice this week and that they were able to put that into the game. They still had to get over the psychological hump of finishing, but they finally did it and pushed through to victory."
This weekend the Knights will be hosting both Kean University and Brooklyn College in a Tri-match at home. The games will be played at 11 am, 1 pm, and 3pm.
