Newburgh, NY- Prior to today's contest of the the MSMC Knights versus the Hamilton College Continentals, the Mount held a ceremony to honor the Seniors on the team. Seniors,
Leah Nemec,
Mary Langan,
Christina Kakavas, and
Raina Quinones along with members of their family, Interim President Father Greg, Coaches and Mount Staff, all took to the field to help recognized these young women and their accomplishments.
Like many games this season weather played a unfortunate role. It wasn't just a windy day, it was a constant blowing wind, interrupted by extremely strong gusts. This heavily dictated the pace and style of play for both of the teams. Hamilton College came out, and held possession most of the first half. However in the 17th minute, the Knights earned a free kick which was taken by
Maria Baldwin. The ball feel into a jumble of bodies and swinging legs, eventually landing at the feet of
Mary Langan, who buried the ball into the net, shocking the visitors. The home team carried the lead into the half.
The second half was much of the same. The Continentals where controlling most of the field and unable to break through the MSMC defense. The knights had a few great chances on net, but were unable to capitalize. The 74th minute was where everything seemed to go wrong for the Mount. Giving up a goal at the start of the 74th minute, and then 40 seconds later giving up a second goal. Within one minute the whole dynamic of the game changed. Even with late surges at the Hamilton goal, the Mount was unable to find their equalizer.
The Knights will have a day's rest before hosting their last regular home season game on Tuesday at pm vs St. Joseph's University Brooklyn.
