Farmingdale, N.Y. – Behind a game-high 15 points from
Lauren Desrats (Warwick, N.Y.), the Mount Saint Mary College Women's Basketball team earned its 10
th straight victory with a 72-36 road triumph at Farmingdale State Tuesday evening.
Tuesday's win pushes Mount Saint Mary to 14-3 overall on the season and to 11-1 in Skyline Conference play, while Farmingdale State drops to 4-15 overall and 3-11 in league competition.
First Half
- Mount Saint Mary managed just three points over the first five minutes of action on Tuesday, but tallied the final seven points of the opening period to take a 15-9 lead into the second stanza.
- Brianna Guglielmo (Smithtown, N.Y.) hit a pair of free-throws to move the Knights in front 10-9 with 1:53 left in the first quarter before A Ciarra Quinn (Bayside, N.Y.) three-pointer and Desrats lay-up closed out the scoring in the period.
- Mount Saint Mary broke the game open early in the second quarter, scoring the period's first 11 points.
- Erin Smith (Goshen, N.Y.) connected on three straight triples to get the Knights in front 26-9 with 6:25 left before halftime.
- A Kate Hughes (Belle Harbor, N.Y.) layup moved the Knights' lead to 31-11 with 4:29 left in the second quarter.
- Cailean Nolan (Cortland Manor, N.Y.) connected on a triple with 90 seconds left before halftime to give the Knights a 34-15.
- Tiffany Sosa converted for the Rams to close out the scoring in the first half sending the two teams to the intermission with the Mount leading 34-17.
- Mount Saint Mary was held to 31.6-percent shooting in the first half, but connected on seven triples, including five in the second quarter.
- Farmingdale State was stifled before the break, shooting just 24.2-percent overall, including 0-for-6 from three-point range.
Second Half
- Farmingdale State came out of the break with the first eight points to slice its disadvantage to 34-25 on a Lisette Cordero bucket at the 6:29 mark of the third quarter.
- Desrats quickly answered with a three-pointer to get the lead back to double-figures at 37-25.
- The Rams would get as close as 10 points midway through the third quarter, before the Knights scored the final 17 points of the period to take a 54-27 advantage into the final frame.
- Desrats hit two threes and scored eight points over the closing run with Casey Love (Staten Island, N.Y.) adding a three-point field goal.
- Charlotte Twohig (Syosset, N.Y.) canned a triple to open the scoring in the fourth quarter and give the Knights a 57-27 lead.
- Nolan hit a three-pointer with 2:05 left in the contest to give the Knights a 69-36 advantage.
- Katelyn McCann (Blooming Grove, N.Y.) buried a triple with 80 seconds remaining to give the Knights their largest lead of the night and the final 72-36 advantage.
- Mount Saint Mary shot 38.9-percent from the floor in the second half and hit on eight more three-pointers after halftime.
- Farmingdale State shot 27.3-percent in the second half and finished the final 20 minutes 1-for-12 from three-point range.
For The Knights
- Desrats was the lone Knight in double-figures in the game, going 6-for-13 from the floor with a trio of three-pointers. She matched the team-high with eight rebounds, four assists and three steals.
- E. Smith went 3-for-6 from three-point range on her way to nine points, joining Desrats with three steals.
- Katie Smith (Goshen, N.Y.) handed out four assists and chipped in six points.
- Love scored eight points off the bench and equaled the team-high with eight rebounds.
- Mount Saint Mary had 12 different players score in the game.
For The Rams
- Sosa led Farmingdale State with 13 points, adding nine rebounds and three blocked shots.
- Jenna Pignataro scored nine points.
- Victoria Kantzian led all players in the game with 10 steals.
Game Statistics
- Mount Saint Mary shot 35.1-percent overall in the game, but made a season-high 15 three-point field goals, shooting 42.9-percent from behind the arc.
- Farmingdale State was held to 25.8-percent shooting in the game, including 1-for-18 from three-point range.
- Mount Saint Mary forced 27 turnovers in the game, leading to 30 points.
- The Knights secured 16 offensive rebounds, outscoring the Rams 12-11 in second chance points.
