Men’s Basketball Toppled At Manhattanville

Cyran produces double-double

 
Purchase, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Basketball team returned to Skyline Conference play Tuesday night, falling on the road at league rival Manhattanville by a score of 79-60. Connor Cyran (Garfield, N.J.) was one of two Knights to score in double-figures, finishing the night with a double-double.
 
Tuesday's loss drops Mount Saint Mary to 4-9 overall on the season and to 1-3 in Skyline Conference play, while Manhattanville improves to 10-3 on the season and 3-1 in league action.
 
First Half
  • The Valiants built an early double-figure advantage after scoring the first 12 points of the game. Jake Dunn and Tommy Lotitto highlighted the run for Manhattanville with back-to-back triples.
  • The Knights were held without a point until a Jayden Racca (New Fairfield, Conn.) three-pointer at the 14:44 mark of the first half.
  • The Mount got to within seven on a Brenden Graham (Campbell Hall, N.Y.) conversion with just over 12 minutes left before halftime.
  • Manhattanville responded with a 12-1 run, capped by a Xavier Kistoo-Miles bucket with 8:28 left before halftime, to surge in front 27-9.
  • The Knights would cut its deficit down to nine points twice over the final 4:37 of the half before a 7-2 spurt for the Valiants pushed the lead back to 40-26 with 31 ticks left before the break.
  • Miles Calame (Staten Island, N.Y.) hit a layup in the final seconds of the half to get the Knights to within 40-28 heading into the intermission.
  • Mount Saint Mary shot 42.3-percent from the floor over the opening 20 minutes and hit on half of its six three-point attempts.
  • Manhattanville converted at an efficient 55.6-percent before halftime despite a 3-for-11 showing from three-point range.
  • Ryan Graham (Campbell Hall, N.Y.) led the Mount with eight first half points.
  • Kistoo-Miles came off the bench to lead all scorers in the half with 12 points for the Valiants.
 
Second Half
  • Mount Saint Mary cut its disadvantage to 46-38 early in the second frame following a pair of Cyran free-throws.
  • The eight-point deficit would be as close as the Mount would get the rest of the way, as Manhattanville built its lead back up to 17 points on a Jack Scanlon free-throw with 7:06 left in regulation time.
  • A Thomas Mullin three-pointer with 1:41 left in the contest gave the Valiants a game-high 22-point lead.
  • The Knights cooled to 30.4-percent shooting after halftime and misfired on each of its four three-point attempts in the second half.
  • Manhattanville converted at 43.3-percent after the break and knocked in three more triples.
  • Elijah Barnett (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) scored seven second half points to lead the Mount.
  • Jackson Leech poured in 10 points for Manhattnville in the final stanza.
 
For The Knights
  • Barnett led the Mount with 12 points in the game on the strength of a 5-for-6 showing from the free-throw line.
  • Cyran wrapped up the evening with 10 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
  • R. Graham chipped in nine points.
  • Calame registered eight points.
  • Chris Yearwood (Red Hook, N.Y.) led the team with two assists and three steals.
 
For The Valiants
  • Leech led all players with 19 points after going 7-for-11 from the field, adding seven rebounds.
  • Kistoo-Miles came off the bench to score 16 points and equal the team-high with three assists.
  • Lotito contributed 12 points and six caroms.
  • Dunn totaled 11 points, connecting on three triples.
 
Game Statistics
  • Mount Saint Mary finished the night shooting 36.7-percent overall and went 3-for-10 from three-point range.
  • Manhattanville shot 49.2-percent for the game and connected on six triples.
  • Mount Saint Mary outscored Manhattanville 21-15 from the free-throw line.
  • The Valiants held a 20-12 advantage in points off of turnovers.
