Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Basketball team closes out a three-game home stand this week when Farmingdale State and Old Westbury pay visits to the Kaplan Center. At A Glance: Mount Saint Mary will return to action for the first time since a home loss to St. Joseph's-L.I. last Thursday. The Knights begin play against Farmingdale State looking to stop a two-game slide and with a 5-12 overall record and 2-6 mark against conference rivals.
Connor Cyran (Garfield, N.J.) leads three Knights scoring in double-figures on the season, checking in with 12.1 points per game. Cyran converts at 48.0-percent overall from the field and is second on the team with 18 three-pointers to go along with 6.2 rebounds per night.
Elijah Barnett (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) leads the team from the field, shooting 51.4-percent, and is good for just under 12 points per outing, while
Jayden Figueroa (New Windsor, N.Y.) nets 11.2 points per game and leads the team with 8.9 rebounds, 2.1 blocks and just shy of two steals per tilt.
Chris Yearwood (Red Hook, N.Y.) has canned a team-high 19 three-pointers heading into Thursday's contest and leads the team with just over two assists per game while chipping in nearly 10 points per night.
Mount Saint Mary is scoring 66.5 points per game as a unit while shooting 42.7-percent overall, 28.5-percent from three-point range and 64.2-percent from the free-throw line.
A Look At Faringdale State: The Rams come to town on Thursday with an 11-6 overall record and a 6-2 mark in league play, sitting just a half game out of first place in the skyline Conference South Division. Farmingdale State had dropped two of its last three decisions, topping Maritime on January 17 between losses to USMMA and Manhattanville.
Nick Hurowitz and Corey Powell pace the offensive attack for the Rams, with Hurowitz shooting 46.2-percent from the floor on his way to 14.3 points per game to go along with a team-high 6.4 rebounds per outing. Powell checks in with 11.8 points per night while shooting just under 43.0-percent from the field.
Jevon Santos is the team's top distributor, handing out better than four assists per game and adds a team-high 2.1 steals per night to go along with 7.5 points. Tre Riggins blocks better than one shot per night and chips in 7.4 points and 5.3 rebounds.
The Rams score just over 77 points per game on the season and covert at 42.7-percent overall, 30.3-percent from three-point range and 72.0-percent from the free-throw line.
Recent History: The long-time conference rivals have met 29 times since the start of the 2006-07 season with the Rams scoring 22 victories. The Knights will look for their first win in the series since a 68-64 home victory on January 10, 2015.
Mount Ties: For the second straight contest the visiting coach is a Mount Saint Mary alumni. Brendan Twomey, who is in his 10
th season at the helm at Farmingdale State, was inducted into the inaugural Mount Saint Mary Hall of Fame Class in 2012. Twomey scored better than 1,500 points while with the Mount and led the Knights to 58 victories, including 23 during the 2002-03 season.
Scouting Old Westbury: The Panthers stopped an eight-game losing streak with a 78-70 victory over Sarah Lawrence on Wednesday. Old Westbury brings a 2-14 overall record and a 2-7 mark in league play with it to the Kaplan Center on Saturday.
Zachary Cummings leads the scoring attack for the Panthers with an even 13.0 points per contest and hands out better than two assists, with Max Weinberg pacing the team on the glass with 6.4 rebounds while chipping in 8.0 points per outing.
Carl Damour and Jordan Johnson-Rader support the offense for the Panthers, scoring 9.6 and 9.5 points per game, respectively.
Old Westbury is good for just over 66 points per game on the season and shoots 37.9-percent overall, 26.9-perent from three-point range and 65.6-percent from the charity stripe.
Recent History: Mount Saint Mary and Old Westbury have hooked up 27 times since the start of the 2006-07 season with the Panthers holding a 17-10 edge in the series over that time. Old Westbury has won the last four decisions, with the Knights last victory in the series coming in an 81-76 home win on December 8, 2018.
