Knights Put Winning Streak On The Line At Mount Saint Vincent

Mount Saint Mary has won eight straight contests

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Basketball team will put its eight-game winning streak on the line Thursday evening when it travels to Skyline Conference rival the College of Mount Saint Vincent. Live Stats and Video will be provided for the 6:00 p.m. tip-off from the Peter Jay Sharp Center in Riverdale, N.Y.
 
At A Glance: The Knights are coming off an impressive 77-51 home win over St. Joseph's-L.I. on Saturday afternoon. The Mount has won eight straight contests and has not lost since a tough 77-62 overtime defeat at St. Joseph's-L.I. on December 3, entering Thursday's contest at 12-3 overall and 9-1 in league play.
 
A balanced scoring attack for the Knights features five players averaging at least seven points per game. Katie Smith (Goshen, N.Y.), who scored her 1,000th point on Saturday against the Golden Eagles, leads the scoring attack with 11.3 points per game and adds a team-high 3.4 assists per outing to go along with nearly four rebounds per night.
 
Asia Rivera (Saddle Brook, N.J.) checks in with 9.0 points and better than 4.1 rebounds per game and is swiping 2.2 steals per tilt, joining Charlotte Twohig (Syosset, N.Y.) for the team-high in thefts.
 
Lauren Desrats (Warwick, N.Y.) leads the Knights with 19 three-point field goals made and is good for 8.3 and 3.5 rebounds per contest. Erin Smith (Goshen, N.Y.) and Kate Hughes (Belle Harbor, N.Y.) support the offense with 7.9 and 7.2 points, respectively. E. Smith is second on the team with 15 three-point field goals, while Hughes paces the Knights on the glass with just shy of five caroms per contest.


Mount Saint Mary leads the Skyline Conference in scoring with 75.1 points per game and scoring margin, outscoring its opponents by better than 23 points per contest.  The Knights are shooting 38.4-percent from the floor overall, 26.6-percent from three-point range and 66.9-percent from the free-throw line.
 
Previewing Mount Saint Vincent: The Dolphins have dropped each of their last two contests, including a 69-55 decision to USMMA on Saturday, and begin play on Thursday at 7-10 overall and 3-9 against conference rivals.
 
The Dolphins feature two players scoring in double-figures, led by Amber Been who tallies 15.1 points per night. Been also leads Mount Saint Vincent in steals and assists with 3.4 and 3.9, respectively, while adding nearly seven rebounds per night.
 
Kira Villegas checks in with 13.6 points and 6.8 rebounds per game, while Melanieann Broderick leads the team on the glass with just under eight rebounds per game to go along with 7.5 points per outing.
 
Mount Saint Vincent scores 54.9 points per game and is shooting 35.0-percent overall, 22.4-percent from three-point range and 62.9-percent from the free-throw line.
 
Previous Meeting: The Knights will go for the season sweep of the Dolphins this evening following a 69-52 victory at the Kaplan Center on December 8.
 
Desrats led all scorers in the game with 19 points after going 8-for-13 from the field. Twohig came off the bench to net 14 points for the Mount, adding six rebounds, four assists and five steals.
 
Been paced the Dolphins with 18 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists and five steals, while Villegas chipped in 15 points.
 
Mount Saint Mary shot 42.9-percent overall in the game and connected on nine triples, while the Dolphins were limited to 34.5-percent shooting and a 4-for-11 effort from three-point range.
 
Recent History: Including the victory in December, Mount Saint Mary holds a 23-7 record against the Dolphins dating back to the start of the 2007-08 season.
 
What's Next: Mount Saint Mary will be off on Saturday and return to action when it travels to Farmingdale State on January 31.
