Knights, Golden Eagles Tussle Saturday Afternoon

Knights look to avenge lone conference loss

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Basketball team is set for a key Skyline Conference battle Saturday afternoon when St. Joseph's-L.I. pays a visit to the Kaplan Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. with Live Stats and Video available for those unable to attend.
 
At A Glance: Mount Saint Mary begins play on Saturday on a seven-game winning streak and sports an 11-3 overall record and an 8-1 mark in conference play. The Knights have not lost since dropping a 72-66 overtime decision on the road at St. Joseph's-L.I. way back on December 3.
 
The Knights, who are coming off an 85-60 road win at St. Joseph's-Brooklyn last Saturday, are led by 10.7 points per game from Katie Smith (Goshen, N.Y.) who is shooting 43.1-percent from the floor. Smith also paces the team with better than three assists per outing and chips in nearly four rebounds and better than one steal per contest.
 
Asia Rivera (Saddle Brook, N.J.), who has scored in double-figures in the last four contests, is good for 8.9 points per game, adding four rebounds and nearly two steals per tilt. Lauren Desrat (Warwick, N.Y.) and Erin Smith (Goshen, N.Y.) support the Mount's offensive attack with 8.4 and 8.2 points, respectively. Desrats leads the team with 18 three-point field goals, while E. Smith ranks second on the squad with 14 triples.
 
Kate Hughes (Belle Harbor, N.Y.) is the Mount's leader on the glass, collecting 4.5 rebounds per game while chipping in 6.4 points and better than one assist per night.
 
Mount Saint Mary leads the league in scoring, pouring in 75.0 points per game and is fourth in the conference in scoring defense, surrendering just under 52 points per night. Mount Saint Mary ranks second in the Skyline Conference in field goal percentage, converting at 38.3-percent as a unit, third in free-throw percentage at 66.2-percent and fourth in three-point field goal percentage with a mark of 27.1-percent.

Honors And Milestones: K. Smith has won back-to-back Skyline Conference Player of the Week awards for the Knights and is poised to score her 1,000th career point. Smith enters Saturday's tilt just 18 points shy of the career milestone.
 
Scouting St. Joseph's-L.I.: The Golden Eagles come to town on Saturday just a game behind the Knights in the league standings and hold a 9-5 overall record and a 7-2 mark in league play. St. Joseph's has won four of its last five outings, including a 54-46 victory against the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Thursday.
 
Alyssa Adomaites and Lanyah Ford lead the offensive attack for the Golden Eagles, with Adomaites scoring a team-high 17.3 points per game to go along with 2.5 assists and 2.4 steals. Ford checks in with 14.9 points and 2.2 assists per night and leads the team on the glass, hauling in 8.5 rebounds per outing.
 
Julianna Knice hands out just shy of four assists per game to lead the team and adds 5.4 points and nearly five boards. Catherine Siounis chips in 7.3 points per game and 5.9 caroms for St. Joseph's.
 
The Golden Eagles score 64.6 points per game on the season and shoot 35.1-percent from the field, 26.4-percent from three-point range and 65.0-percent from the free-throw line.
 
Previous Meeting: The Golden Eagles snuck past the Knights in overtime 72-66 on December 3.
 
Brianna Guglielmo (Smithtown, N.Y.) and E. Smith led the offense with 10 points apiece as the Mount was held to 29.3-percent shooting overall and a 3-for-30 effort from three-point range.
 
St. Joseph's received 20 points and 20 rebounds from Ford and 15 points from Adomaites in the victory. Siounis chipped in 10 points as the Golden Eagles shot 40.6-percent overall and knocked in eight triples.
 
Recent History: Since the start of the 2007-08 season, the Knights and Golden Eagles have met 30 times with the Knights holding a commanding 26-4 advantage in the series. The Mount won 15 straight decisions from January 24, 2008 through February 8 and then won nine straight from January 16, 2016 through January 16, 2020.
 
The two teams have split the last four meetings.
 
What's Next: The Knights hit the road for their only game next week when they head to the College of Mount Saint Vincent on January 25.
