Men’s Basketball Hosts St. Joseph’s-L.I. Wednesday Night

Knights, Golden Eagles square-off in only meeting of the season

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Basketball team returns to the Kaplan Center on Wednesday when it welcomes Skyline Conference South Division rival St. Joseph's-L.I. to Newburgh. Tip-off with the Golden Eagles is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. with Live Stats and Video available for those unable to attend.
 
At A Glance: Mount Saint Mary split two games last week, topping USMMA at home by a score of 61-58 before falling in a tight 69-63 decision at the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday. The Knights begin play on Wednesday with a 5-11 overall record and a 2-5 mark against conference opponents.
 
Four Knights begin the new week scoring in double-figures through 16 games, led by 12.5 points from Elijah Barnett (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.). Barnett is shooting 52.1-percent from the floor and is good for 4.5 rebounds, 1.6 steals and 1.4 assists per outing.
 
Connor Cyran (Garfield, N.J.) checks in with 11.9 points and 6.4 rebounds to go along with 1.6 assists per contest. Cyran converts at 47.2-percent from the floor for the Knights and is tied for the team lead with 16 three-point field goals.
 
Jayden Figueroa (New Windsor, N.Y.) is posting just over 11 points and just under nine boards per night for the Mount and leads the team with better than two blocked shots per outing. Figueroa shoots just under 48-percent from the floor and swipes nearly two steals and hands out better than one assist per game.
 
Chris Yearwood (Red Hook, N.Y.) is scoring an even 10 points per night and is tied with Cyran with a team-high 16 three-point field goals. Yearwood shoots 41.7-percent overall from the field and leads the team with 2.4 assists per tilt.
 
Mount Saint Mary scores just shy of 67 points per game as a team while shooting 42.8-percent from the field overall, 28.8-percent from three-point range and 63.8-percent from the free-throw line.
 
Scouting St. Joseph's: The Golden Eagles are coming off a 61-51 victory over Sarah Lawrence on Saturday and have won four of their last five to stand at 7-7 overall and 4-2 in Skyline Conference play.
 
The Golden Eagles are led by 16.1 points per night from Spencer Malloy with Xavier Allen supporting the scoring attack with 15.9 points per game. Malloy also leads the way with 8.3 rebounds per night and is shooting 51.5-percent from the field. Allen paces the squad with nearly three assists per tilt and chips in just under seven caroms per outing.
 
Jake Gaudiello leads the way with 2.2 steals per night for the Golden Eagles to go along with 2.6 assists per game, while Liam Sheehy swats 2.2 blocks per game and hauls in just shy of seven rebounds per contest.
 
St. Joseph's scores 68.6 points per game through 14 contests and converts at 42.4-percent overall, 33.1-percent from three-point range and 65.3-percent from the free-throw line.
 
Familiar Face: St. Joseph's head Coach, A.J. Uhl, is in his first season as the Golden Eagles mentor and is a 2014 graduate of Mount Saint Mary and played for head coach Ryan Kadlubowski. Uhl was part of the Mount's ECAC Championship team in 2012 and paced the Mount in three-point field goal percentage in both the 2011-12 and 2013-14 seasons.
 
Recent History: Since the start of the 2006-07 season, the longtime Skyline Conference rivals have met 28 times with each side winning 14 times. The Knights produced eight straight wins from January 16, 2016 through February 1, 2020 before the Golden Eagles scored a 76-57 win in Patchogue last season.
 
What's Next: The Knights continue a three-game homestand next week when Farmingdale State and Old Westbury pay visits to the Kaplan Center.
