Knights Set For Conference Clashes With USMMA, Mount Saint Vincent

Knights looking to stop three-game slide


Newburgh, N.Y. - The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Basketball team will take on a pair of Skyline Conference opponents this week when it plays host to USMMA on Wednesday night before traveling to the College of Mount Saint Vincent Saturday afternoon. Live Stats and Video will be available for both contests for those unable to attend. 

At A Glance: Mount Saint Mary returns to the Kaplan Center for the first time since topping Rutgers-Newark on December 14 Wednesday night. The Knights have dropped their last three outings and enter Wednesday's tilt with the Mariners at 4-10 overall and 1-4 against league rivals. 

Three Knights begin the new week averaging in double-figures, led by 12.6 points per game from Elijah Barnett (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.). Barnett is shooting 53.2-percent from the floor and contributes 4.6 rebounds per game and better than one assist and one steal per outing. 

Jayden Figueroa (New Windsor, N.Y.) checks in with 12.4 points per game for the Mount and paces the team with just shy of 10 caroms per night. Figueroa is converting at 47.2-percent from the floor and also paces the team with 2.0 steals per game and 2.2 blocks per contest. 

Connor Cyran (Garfield, N.J.) is good for 11.9 points per game and 6.2 boards per game while shooting 48.2-percent from the floor. Cyran leads the way for the Knights from distance with 16 three-point field goals. 

Chris Yearwood (Red Hook, N.Y.) chips in 9.9 points per game for the Mount and a team-high 2.1 assists per contest. Ryan Graham (Campbell Hall, N.Y.) supports the offense with just under eight points per outing for the Mount. 

Through 14 games, Mount Saint Mary averages 67.4 points as a unit while shooting 43.5-percent from the floor, 29.1-percent from three-point range and 62.2-percent from the free-throw line. 

Scouting USMMA: The Mariners sit atop the Skyline Conference North Division with a 3-1 league record to go along with a 5-8 mark overall. USMMA has won its last two outings, including a 66-57 victory over Manhattanville on Saturday. 

The Mariners feature four players averaging at least 9.0 points per game, led by 11.9 points per night from Drew Zaescik who converts at 48.6-percent from the field overall and 40.5-percent from three-point range. 

Bryce Bristow leads the team with just shy of eight rebounds per game and chips in 9.8 points per night with Isaac Vencel checking in with 9.2 points per game and a team-high 3.4 assists per outing. Kody Robinson supports the Mariners' offensive attack with an even 9.0 points per contest. 

USMMA enters Wednesday's contest scoring 61.0 points per game on 39.3-percent shooting overall, 30.9-percent from three-point range and 64.6-percent from the free-throw line. 

Recent History: Since the start of the 2006-07 season the Knights and Mariners have split 12 meetings evenly.The Knights had a three-game winning streak in the series stopped on February 5, 2022 with a 64-46 road loss. 

A Look At Mount Saint Vincent: The Dolphins head to divisional foe Old Westbury on Wednesday with a 4-8 overall record and a 1-3 mark against league rivals. Mount Saint Vincent has alternated wins and losses over its last six decisions and is coming off a tight 60-58 loss against  St. Joseph's-L.I. on Saturday. 

Joshua Cabezudo leads the scoring attack for the Dolphins with 15.1 points per game on 47.8-percent shooting and adds a team-high 7.8 rebounds per contest.
 
D.J. Tucker checks in with 12.5 points per game and 6.8 boards per night while Dan Porcic contributes 11.0 points and just over six rebounds per outing. 

Aaron Darub paces the Dolphins with 3.0 assists and 2.5 steals per game while chipping in 9.7 points per contest. 

Mount Saint Vincent scores 70.4 points per game through 12 contests while shooting 38.2-percent overall, 29.2-percent from three-point range and 67.2-percent from the free-throw line. 

Recent History: The longtime Skyline Conference rivals have met 27 times since the start of the 2006-07 season with the Knights holding a slim 14-13 advantage in the series. Mount Saint Mary won eight straight games against the Dolphins from February 14, 2011 through February 8, 2014 with the Dolphins responding with the next seven triumphs. 

The two sides have split the last four meetings with the Knights scoring two straight victories after dropping seven straight and the Dolphins taking each of the last two decisions. 

What's Next: The Knights open a three-game home stand against Skyline South Division rivals on January 18 against St. Joseph's-L.I.
