Knights Draw Mount Saint Vincent In Skyline Conference Action

Rescigno tallies for the Knights

Newburgh, N.Y. – Nick Rescigno (Franklin Square, N.Y.) scored his first career goal late in the first half to even the score as the Mount Saint Mary College Men's Soccer team played league rival the College of Mount Saint Vincent to a 1-1 draw Wednesday night at Kaplan Field.
 
Wednesday's result moves Mount Saint Mary to 2-4-2 overall on the season and to 0-1-1 in conference play, while the Dolphins move to 3-2-1 overall and 1-0-1 in league action.
 
First Half
  • All the scoring in Wednesday's contest took place in the opening period, with the visitors scoring in the 12th minute and the Knights responding in the 41st minute.
  • Carlos Romero opened the scoring for the Dolphins at the 11:55 mark of the contest when he converted a penalty kick following a hand ball in the box.
  • The one goal advantage held for Mount Saint Vincent until the late stages of the opening stanza when Rescigno found the equalizer for the Knights.
  • Matt Wyant (Beacon, N.Y.) started a free kick outside the box that was blocked before Jake Kwong (Staten Island, N.Y.) touched a pass to Rescigno who found the back of the net for the first time in his career to even the score.
  • Mount Saint Mary held a commanding 10-1 advantage in shots in the opening half and took each of the five corner kicks taken in the half.
 
Second Half
  • Neither team would find the deciding goal in the second half, with each team getting off eight shots after halftime.
  • Peter Ramirez (New Windsor, N.Y.) would take four shots after halftime for the Knights, with the best chance sailing just wide in the 76th minute.
  • Wyant also had a sterling chance in the second half that was tipped just over the bar by Mount Saint Vincent keeper Joel Luna in the 86th minute.
  • Both Luna and Caesar Martinez (Lake Katrine, N.Y.) made three saves in the second half to keep the opposition off the board.
  • Each team took one corner kick in the second half.
 
For The Knights
  • Rescigno became the fourth different Knights to find the scoring column in 2022 with his first half tally.
  • Kwong picked up his first point of the season with the assist on the Rescigno marker.
  • Ramirez led the Mount with five shots in the contest, with one attempt on goal.
  • Wyant unleashed three shots in the contest, getting two on target.
  • Martinez finished with three stops, moving his goals against average to 1.50 on the season and his save percentage to .745.
 
For The Dolphins
  • Romero scored his first goal of the season in the early going on Wednesday.
  • Ian Lamas led the Dolphins with five shots, including two on goal.
  • Luna closed the night with four saves in goal.
 
Match Statistics
  • Mount Saint Mary doubled up Mount Saint Vincent in overall shots 18-9 and finished with a slim 5-4 edge in shots on goal.
  • The Knights dominated corner kicks, 6-1.
  • Fouls in the contest went against the Knights 12-11.
