Danbury, Conn. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Tennis team was back in action again Friday evening and suffered a hard fought 6-3 non-conference loss at Western Connecticut.
Carly Green (Holbrook, N.Y.) and
Sadie McNair (Newburgh, N.Y.) each picked up their first singles wins of the season.
McNair finished the day with a pair of victories, outlasting her opponent at fourth singles 7-6, 6-3 and joining
Victoria Valencia (Floral Park, N.Y.) at the second doubles for a hard fought 8-7 victory over the Wolves. The duo moves to 1-1 together through two matches, while NcNair evens her singles record at 1-1.
Green, a Second Team All-Skyline Conference selection a season ago, got on the board in singles action Friday at the second position. After easing to a 6-2 victory in the first set, Green held off her opponent in the second by a score of 7-6.
Julia Flynn (Naugatuck, Conn.) was back in action at the top singles flight on Friday and battled hard in a three set defeat 6-7, 6-0, 6-7. Flynn and Green also teamed up at the first singles position and were outlasted in a tight 8-7 decision.
Friday's loss drops Mount Saint Mary to 0-2 overall on the season. Next up for the Knights is a trip to Russell Sage on Sunday for a 1:00 p.m. match with the Gators at Albany Academy.
