Men’s Lacrosse Topped At Maritime In 2022 Finale

Kelley makes 10 saves

Throggs Neck, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Lacrosse team closed out the 2022 season Saturday afternoon with a 17-3 road loss at Maritime. Devin Kelley (Hebron, Conn.) finished the contest with 10 saves in goal, while Colby Martin (Huntington, N.Y.) led the scoring attack with two points.
 
Saturday's loss finishes the Mount's season at 8-7 overall and 2-5 in conference play. 2022 marked the Knights' first full season since 2019 and the Mount posted a winning record for the first time since going 12-7 in 2018.
 
How It Happened
  • Maritime stifled Mount Saint Mary over the first two quarters, carrying a 9-0 lead into the intermission.
  • The Privateers scored three times in the first period and piled on six tallies in the second.
  • Maritime potted the first two goals of the third frame to open an 11-0 lead following a John Killcommons man-up goal at the 12:09 mark.
  • Mount Saint Mary got on the board at the 10:15 mark of the third period when Martin finished off a feed from Brian Esposito (Floral Park, N.Y.) with the man-advantage.
  • The Privateers countered with the final three goals of the third quarter to carry a 14-1 lead into the final stanza.
  • Nick Gurello (Selden, N.Y.) opened the scoring in the fourth quarter off a feed from Martin.
  • Sean Mueller (Pleasantville, N.Y.) added a fourth quarter goal for the Knights, scoring an unassisted goal with just over nine minutes left in regulation time.
 
For The Knights
  • Martin finished the season with a team-high 24 goals and finished second on the squad with 37 points. Martin added a groundball and a caused turnover for the Knights on Saturday.
  • Esposito finished the season as the Skyline Conference leader in assists with 38 and as the team leader in points with 49.
  • Gurello scored his 18th goal of the season and collected a groundball.
  • Joseph Angelillo (Pompton Plains, N.J.) led the Mount with five groundballs.
  • Chris Maggio (Valley Stream, N.Y.) caused three turnovers and secured four groundballs.
  • Bobby DeSantis (Patchogue, N.Y.) won six face-offs and picked up three groundballs.
  • Robert Root (Scotch Plains, N.J.) won five face-offs.
  • Kelly turned aside 10 shots in 45 minutes of action on Saturday. He closes the season 104 saves and with a program single season record 8.24 goals against average.
 
For The Privateers
  • Killcommons tallied three times and added an assist and two groundballs.
  • Parker Reilly scored twice and assisted on a pair of goals.
  • Patrick Schnell scored once, assisted on three goals and collected four groundballs.
  • Joe Kiernan and Patrick McGrath each caused three turnovers with McGrath adding three groundballs.
  • Kyle Orton scored two goals, won three face-offs and led the team with five groundballs.
  • Thomas Pellicci won seven face-offs and collected four groundballs.
  • Michael Monahan earned the win in goal with three saves over 30 minutes.
 
Game Statistics
  • Maritime outshot the Mount 57-28 overall and 30-11 in shots on goal.
  • Groundballs went to the Privateers 43-27.
  • Maritime held a slim 13-11 advantage in face-offs.
