Softball Closes Regular Season With Doubleheader Loss At Farmingdale State

Knights secure third seed in upcoming conference championship

Farmingdale, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Softball team rounded out the regular season on Sunday afternoon with a pair of losses at Farmingdale State, falling 3-0 and 6-0 to the Rams. The Knights will enter the upcoming 2022 Skyline Conference Championship as the third seed, while the Rams wrapped up the regular season championship.
 
Sunday's sweep drops Mount Saint Mary to 19-16 overall on the season and 15-3 in conference play, while the Rams clinched the top seed with a 26-3 overall record and a 17-1 mark against league rivals.

How It Happened
  • The Knights were limited to just two singles in the opener.
  • The Rams plated what proved to be the deciding run the first inning when Ava Shorr singled home Jenna Giliberti with two outs in the inning. A second run on the play crossed following a Mount Saint Mary miscue.
  • The lead grew to the final three-run advantage in the second when Angelina Capuano scampered home following a single from Jessica Clark.
  • Alicia Killeen (Nesconset, N.Y.) and Olivia Ferara (Middletown, N.Y.) singled in the first and the Mount advanced two runners to scoring position for their only scoring threat of the game.
 
For The Knights
  • Killeen and Ferara accounted for the only hits for the Knights in the game.
  • Laura Dentato (Farmingdale, N.Y.) and Sofia Gannon (East Patchogue, N.Y.) each drew walks for the only other base runners in the contest.
  • Bridget Morris (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) pitched well in the loss, working a complete game and allowing two earned runs on seven hits.

How It Happened
  • Farmingdale State got off to a quick start again in game two, plating three runs in the first.
  • Shorr was in the middle of the rally with a run scoring single with Clark closing the scoring in the game with a bases load walk.
  • The Rams' advantage grew to 5-0 in the fourth following a run scoring single from Giliberti who later scored on a Brooke Walker double.
  • Farmingdale State closed out the scoring in the game in the fifth when Capuano crossed on a groundout.
  • Mount Saint Mary was limited to a leadoff single from Killeen in the top of the fourth inning.
 
For The Knights
  • Killeen recorded the team's only hit of game two and two of the three hits for the team over the set.
  • Jenna Cedeno (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Gannon each drew a walk in the contest for the Knights.
  • Morris suffered the game loss, allowing five runs on 10 hits in 3.2 innings.
  • Christen Hansenb (Cypress, Calif.) worked the final 2.1 innings and allowed one run on three hits.
 
What's Next
  • Mount Saint Mary opens play in the 2022 Skyline Conference Championship on Tuesday when it plays host to sixth seeded Old Westbury. Game time will be announced when it is confirmed.
  • Farmingdale State will take on the winner of the St. Joseph's-Brooklyn and St. Joseph's-L.I. Opening Round game on Thursday.
