Knights Topped By Dolphins

Shalvey, Ward total five points each

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Lacrosse team suffered its third straight loss Saturday afternoon, falling to the College of Mount Saint Vincent by a score of 18-9. Megan Shalvey (Blauvelt, N.Y.) and Victoria Ward (Oceanside, N.Y.) each finished the day with five points for the Knights.
 
Saturday's loss drops Mount Saint Mary to 6-4 overall on the season and 0-3 in Skyline Conference play, while Mount Saint Vincent improves to 4-2 overall and 2-1 in league competition.
 
How It Happened
  • After the two teams traded goals in the opening six-an-a-half minutes, Mount Saint Vincent got back-to-back goals to from Ashley Teal and Veronica Servivas to grab a 3-1 lead late in the first quarter.
  • Ward scored with 32 seconds left in the first period to bring the Knights to within 3-2 before Alicia Rodriguez scored with 12 ticks left in the frame to give the Dolphins a 4-2 advantage after 15 minutes.
  • Mount Saint Vincent outscored the Knights 6-0 in the second stanza, getting four goals from Rodriguez to carry a 10-2 advantage into the intermission.
  • Mount Saint Mary outscored the Dolphins 3-2 in the third frame, getting goals from Jackie Lindsay (Baldwin, N.Y.), Shalvey and Ward to climb to within 12-5 with 15 minutes left to play.
  • Mount Saint Vincent responded with six of the 10 goals in the final frame, including a Colleen MacNeil tally with 11:02 left to give the Dolphins a game-high 16-5 lead.
  • Mount Saint Mary scored four of the final six goals in the game to get the final disadvantage to nine tallies. Shalvey scored three times for the Mount in the final 9:33 of the contest.
 
For The Knights
  • Shalvey finished with four goals and an assist and moved her team-high in goals to 32 and points to 40.
  • Ward scored a pair of goals and assisted on three markers, giving her a team-high 13 helpers on the year.
  • Ashley Giorgi (Danbury, Conn.) finished with a goal and an assist for the Knights.
  • Maggie Horan (Stony Point, N.Y.) collected a team-high four groundballs and registered three caused turnovers.
  • Lindsay finished with three caused turnovers, a goal and matched the team-high with two draw controls.
  • Karlie Ferrucci (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) and Kate Crooker (Boonton, N.J.) each won two draw controls with Crooker causing two miscues.
  • Liz Petrellese (Levittown, N.Y.) stopped seven shots in goal and picked up three groundballs.
  • Mary Massaro (Watertown, Conn.) stopped two shots in 24 minutes of work.
 
For The Dolphins
  • Rodriguez closed a big day with seven goals, eight points and seven draw controls.
  • MacNeil posted a goal and six assists to go along with 15 draw controls.
  • Ava Starace scored four times.
  • Teal posted three goals and three helpers, adding two groundballs and two caused turnovers.
  • Katherine Hungerford earned the win in goal with seven saves.

  • Mount Saint Vincent outshot Mount Saint Mary 34-18.
  • Groundballs in the game were even at 13-13.
